Pearce, Assistant Superintendent Among the many outcomes which your teachers and others desired for you as a result of your public school experience was one that you would develop an aware- ness of the value of education. We hope that you have come to have a strong belief in the necessity of broad educational opportunity for all and that as you go on to full adulthood you will join those who work toward this end, Free, public schools did not come into being in our country spontaneously. We have them because people fought for them and worked for them until they be- came a reality. Their continued presence cannot really be taken for granted.
