C. H. S. are composed of twelve girls, four seniors and eight juniors. The uniforms of the majorettes are the traditional school colors of gold and white. They consist of: reversible gold and white corduroy skirts topped by gold V-neck sweaters, and white ma- jorette boots set by gold and white tas- sels . These high-stepping girls, along with the high school band, perform many drills for home and away football games . To help open the basketball season a dance was sponsored in the All Pur- pose Room after the first game . The majorettes spend many hours perfecting routines for the entertainment of the audience at home games . These same routines provide the enjoyment for many school assemblies . Mr. Grant Thompson was recently elected as the sponsor, and Sondra Scott fulfilled the job of Head Majorette. .J 6.3 JJ , ,.v Q I A -rs, - HJ., M 5. Qi t . FOOTBALL A New Look burst forth upon the scene of G. C. High School for the 1957 season. A NEW coaching staff, NEW system, NEW uniforms, and almost an entirely NEW team took the field. With many NEW faces in the lineup, the season proved to be very up and down which is so indicative of a young inexperienced squad. In compiling a 2-5-2 record the Gold and White tied the two best teams on their schedule and lost to several of the weakest. There seemed to be no team that scored above the Eagles as their total margin of defeat for the five games stood at 37 points . With only six seniors on the squad and 16 lettermen returning for next season, the Eagles should show some of the power that made them the most feared and respected football team in the district from 1940 to 1950. Replacements will have to he found for guard, Lew Hartg tackles, Chuck Tubbs, Dave Smathers, and Dick-Pearson: end, jack Collins and fullback, Don jones . Six squad members back from this year's spirited aggregation and a letterman returning in each position should go a long way in replacing our senior stalwarts and perhaps bring- ing another Mercer County Championship to the Lair of the Eagles. The Eagles of 1957-58 hurt by lack of experience and height battered their way from the opening whistle at New Castle to the final buzzer at Franklin compiling a JUNIOR VARSITY 4-16 record. Under Head Coach McCullough who last year masterminded the Eagles to the Mercer County crown, Grove City was never outfought and never down. Meeting some of the best teams in this section, Grove City acquired the badly needed exper- ience which will pay double rewards next year. Playing their final game for the Gold and White were Senior co-captains Lewis, Welton, and Jones. The nucleus of next year's squad will be taken from the follow- ing: Freshman, Dick Dailyg Sophomores, Clyde Adams, Bruce Clark, and Ron Leachg and Juniors, Jim Eaker, Ron Worley, Frank McWilliams, Dean Billick, Frank Polar, Gary Forsythe, and Byron Welker.
