Rarely is a school as fortunate as ours in having, at the some time, two such outstanding teachers as Miss Beulah Shriver and Coach Jack Mashin. So self-evident is this fact that the Annual Staff wishes to honor both in a double dedication. l Miss Beulah Shriver Mr. Jack Mashin Miss Shriver's retirement this year, after twenty-one years at Grossmont, represents the ful- fillment of a career known only to the gifted master teacher. Students who have worked with her have felt her friendly persuasion and forceful direction. Her devoted work on the Christmas Pageant resulted in performances beautifully conceived and executed, and her coaching of Speech and English pupils brought incentive and success to many for the first time, With her departure comes the realization that her generosity, good will, and affection will be impossible to replace. Grossmont's allegiance to Coach Jack Mashin covers most of Grossmont's history, Since l924, when our school's enrollment was about 400, until today with students numbering over 2,600, Coach has been an inspirational leader in the lives of every student body. His winning teams and star athletes, under the influence of his skill, sincerity and sense of fair play, have been cheered throughout Southern California. Fine sportsmanship and the spirit of friendly competition are keynotes of his entire career. Perhaps his greatest contribution to Grossmont is his natural ability to reach the average student, fostering in each one an awareness of self-confidence and strength,
