ADVISOR if JOHN JENSEN ASB President BERNIE GOROSPE ASB Vice-President GERRY DEARMIN ASB Secretory SUE SHEARER Commissioner of Culturol Affoirs HELEN HOUZE Commissioner of Public Works UI' ef? 50-51 ASB Meet the people who turned the cogs in the wheels of progress. They were the ones behind the efficiently run Student Government. Not olwoys getting the credit for their tosks they worked on un- tiringly. Sommie knew lots on most subjects, but he sot bock ond let those LUN, . Commission copoble people in the A. S. B. office toke o tree hond. They eorned for themselves ond school o ploce high up on the list of school governments. The Freedom Foundation oworded the government on eleventh in the No- tionol School Contest ond first in the single school division. MARK ECI-lEVERRl Commissioner of Athletics STAN HAWKS Commissioner of Finonce JACK CAMPBELL Attorney General JOAN HOSS Commissioner of Publicity BARBARA BUSCH Chief Justice N-ff' 'Qin 'YHRD We'd like you to know cibout the people who get olmost no glory or recognition for their long tiresome jobs. They do oll the jobs left by the commissioners when their desks overflow with importont work, ond osk no speciol tovors. They only wont experience, which they certoinly get. Reoching to every student through home rooms is o very successful woy ot getting everyone's ideos on current school problems. Student Council is similor to the House of Representotives in the Notionol Government. Vice-President Bernord Gerospe, with the oid of Sod Somrnie, ruled over Student Council. Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, ond Freshmen, ond even Sommie ore represented equol- ly in the Upper House. Officers from eoch closs ore brought together here to discuss school problems. Seen with their reol snoppy beonies, this group wos responsible for the well known school spirit this yeor, their cheering sections were reolly opprecioted by our teoms. Along with this, they found time to help with Pep Assemblies. TICKET SQUAD CARD TRICKS Shouldering a big headache, this committee took on halt-time enter- tainment with the audi- ence participating. Long hours were spent working on this really hard job. This squad comes under Finance and is in charge of all tickets sold at school. l-leaded by Carol Galusha and Mary Clark, this group takes care of all home games, ASB. dances, and school concerts, Tickets can easily make people go mad-ask the ticket squad, they know. STUDENT COURT Their job is to try persons who are glilty of committing offenses against the school rules. Samrnie hasn't had the name ot Jail Bird pinned on him yet. We think he's a typical law-abiding citizen. President. .., ,, , Vice-President 7,,, Secretary. .,, . Treasurer e,eee Service Chmn. .. Social Chmn. u- Friendship Chmn. ,e,,ee. Under the slogan, Unselfish Service, the League was first organized in i922 and since then has grown rapidly in its program for serving the girls of the school in many ways. Activities-Service to the school is accomplished by traditional activities such as the following: l, information-guide service to incoming new pupils. 2. Christmas giving campaign. 3. Christmas Pageant ushering. 4. Tea honoring faculty women. 5. Enforcement of Dress Regulations. This year they sponsored the first annual TWlRP WEEK which proved to be very successful. The events of the week included a fashion show for the girls, and assembly on military service for the boys, baggage day, Ladies and Gentlemen day, and o dance, the Twirp Twirl. Ad- vancing in their chosen tields, they will be the graduates of today- the Doctor Jones, Lawyer Thomas, and Mayor Golden that will fill the cities and towns ten years from now. STUDENTS GOING TO CLASS VIRGIL DUEA MILTON CROSS Advlsors SALLY BARNETT PAT LINDEN Treosurer PAT MCNABB Secretory DON LENARDI President Veep RUTH BARRETT Counselor CLARA BROWN GORDON SHIELDS T Advisors SENIORS Little Sammie has had a busy time this year keeping up with our active Seniors. But he's taken special pains to attend everything, since our class will be the last and largest full Grad- uating Class from Grossmont before the school is divided. Little Sammie attended the Senior Banquet and ate his fill with the rest. From there he attended Ditch Day and was a little more than waterlogged from that ex- perience. Then the Prom, and he was there in tie and tails with his ladyfriend. And, finally, with tear- filled eyes, he walked down the steps with us at Graduation, SENIOR DITCH DAY AND BANQUET COMMITTEES This year's banquet was really fine, closed bid to seniors only. lt gave them a chance to have fun and talk about old times before leaving. Senior ditch day was still a secret when the annual went to press, but the com- mittee working on it says that all who go will really enjoy it. KIYXUA-efe oA IIXUAQIU afe EL? grave .szniom Y H CAP AND GOWN, AND GRADUATION COMMITTEES Making this year's graduation a more beautiful graduation, these two committees worked really hard to make this a time the seniors would long remember. The Cap and Gown Committee suited us up for our final step into the future. SWEATER, GIFT, AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Sweater Committee garbed us late in the year with the traditional blue senior sweaters, while the Announce- ment Committee helped the class pick out announcements that will be long remembered. And the Gift Committee decided to leave good old G.U.H.S. a basketball score board. Money for the score board came from the senior play, The Late Christopher Bean. 5 3kl3'wx4 , S ADAMS, Rae Rae came to Grossmont from lowa in her Sr. yr .... when not studying science, Rae likes to reod . . . she hoDeS To go into nursing after gradu- ating . . . while in Iowa was Ed.-in-Chief of school paper, Copy Ed., in Drama club . . . H A Ex' ei KX L9 get Ouf 0 OM, This year's varsity football squad was a green, inexperienced, but determined group of boys. lt was on the hands of Coaches Lee Bogle, Ken Maynard, Ralph Chaplin, and Walt Barnett, to start from seven returning lettermen and fashion a top-notch ball team. Throughout the season, co-captains Dave Salas and Bob Lemmon were forever gaining re- spect and admiration for their tight, hustle, and determination, especially when the chips were down. Lemmon was selected on the second team of the newly formed All-City League, while Salas received honorable mention and was elected most valuable player by his teammates. Frank Branlich was decided on as the most improved player. Ronald Humphrey, whose hard-hitting defense and powerhouse ball packing jolted many opponents, was decided upon to hold down a first-string All-City backtield berth. The team ended the season in a tie for third place with the Hoover Cardinals. OMG? janld As was expected, the Foothillers got off to a slow start against the Chula Vista Spartans. Although the team was green, no one expected Grossmont to take a 25-O shellacking. Lead by quarterback Vern Dodds, Chula Vista's offense continued to click. Chula Vista 25-Grossmont O Coming back with new determination, the Blue and Gold squad got on the win- ning track with their traditional rivals, the Sweetwater Red Devils. The unveiled spirit of the Foothillers proved to be too great and they rolled to a l9-l2 victory. Grossmont l9-Sweetwater l2 The game between Grossmont and Saint Augustine was highly offensive for the Foothillers with the ever-improving line blocking and tackling with new vigor. Pen- alties, however, hampered their chances for a high scoring evening. Grossmont 7-Saint Augustine O The Grossmonters had their first high scoring evening when they played host to Kearny, underdogs of the newly-formed City League, and officially opened league play, l-laving control of the ball most of the time, the Grossmonters won the game, l9-O. Grossmont l 9-Kearny O Ll y Wat Zligluf fo flue cfm! . . In taking their fourth consecutive win, the Foothillers had to upset the highly vaunted gridsters of Hoover High. Swiping the ball during mass confusion, Ronald Humphrey, Grossmont fullback, rambled into pay dirt and the deciding tally of the game. Grossmont l 2-Hoover 7 Although playing what was considered their best effort of the season, Grossmont's win streak was cut short when they ron into the league champs, San Diego High. A lazy five minutes caused their downfall and San Diego's gain, San Diego 20-Grossmont 7 Having been slowed down by San Diego, the Foothillers were hampered by their tightness and want of a secure hold on second place. Having the psychological edge, the La Jolla Vikings, led by Omer Ruiz, trounced the Grossmonters in high fashion. Grossmont O-La Jolla 30 The Grossmont grid machine ended league play with a scrappy loss to Point Loma. lt wasn't until the second half that the fury of the Foothillers wos completely felt, but it wasn't enough to overcome the lead piled up by the Lomans. Grossmont lf?-Point Loma 30 Traveling north for their final game of l95O, the Foothillers were met by the over- whelming speed and power of the Bakers- field Drillers.
