More time spent driving on roads The Driver Education Department at Grosse Pointe South changed its program in 1968-69 by increasing the time students spend driving on the street. Now when the course is finished, each student has had an hour and a half of driving experience on the road as well as 15 hours at the Pier. Through this, the in- structors hope the students will become re- sponsible and mature drivers. To help Mr. Balcirak and Mr. Harris, there were 23 cadettes who assisted the students in driving. The cadettes are chosen by their ability and leadership. During the summer, five cadettes, Steve Ellis, Barbara Parson, Larry Markham, Grant Collins, and John Southcott won recognition for their entries in Volkswagon's National Driver Safety Contest.
