Fernando Benliro Surprise tennis sends players to state he boys varsity tennis team end the season with a record-of four and five losses. Though the de- outweighed the victories, Fa- Fernando Benliro, varsity tennis , felt that the team did well. won more than l thought we said Fr. Benliro. Fr. Benliro said that the loss of gra- Mike Morgan left an opening on the team which was difficult to fill. Added to the team's victories was a quarterfinal match at state for Matt Ware. Besides winning many matches, the team members had a good time. Dan Mickells '87 said he had a successful season playing doubles with partner Ken Dann. lt was my first year, but I found it very interest- ing and a lot of fun, said Dan. The girls varsity tennis team had a successful year, finishing with a re- cord of seven wins and five losses. Fr. Benliro felt that although the sea- son was successful it could have been better. This has been a win- ning season, but we could have had a record of nine wins and three losses if players were not absent, said Fr. Benliro. The high point of the season was Lisa Tonkin's performance in the Metro tournament. Lisa went into the tournament seeded third. Lisa lost in the semifinals to the number one seeded player. varsity tennis f 4 34
