For I wasn't born a prophet Any more than one of you. I had spent the day in study, And in thinking, hard and deep, So I now, all worn and weary, Lay me down and fell asleep. I had lain there but a moment, In that slumber, calm and sweet, When I rose, refreshed and strengthened And stepped out into the streetg But I very soon discovered That I was in a strange place, For I saw not one known figure, Nor an old familiar face.
