And in this manner do we dispose of our possessions: To our dear old school building itself, we leave the peaceful quiet caused by our absence and spit-balls, wads of gum, or crumpled notes we have left behind. To our principal and superintendent we give and bequeath a sense of relief that we have at last been graduated, and pleasant memories of our four years together. The smaller bequests are as follows: Woodie Ann Henderson leaves her ability to be married her senior year and still attend school to Sheila Pearce and Linda Sue Webb. Billy Avant, better known as Ace, leaves his many stills and recipes to Lawrence Sims, Earl David Smith, and Jerry Colmen. Patti Franklin and Tommy Geren will and direct their good times together to Robert Fewell and the girl he finally falls for. (This could take years.) Ken Neyland leaves his ability to be “Hero of all the F. H. A. girls to Joe Allman. Spike McLean leaves his way with the underclassmen girls to Don Cox, Dale Wilson, and Melvin Henry. Barbara Stohler leaves her typing ability to Betty Jean LaFoy and Martha Lane Wilson. Barbara sometimes gets as many as 20 words per minute! Tomye Browder and Patty Hanyan, will their ability to be the most loveable “pests of the Senior Class to Dwain Wilson and Jan (Queenie) Burney. Watch out kids, they're after you. Janis Jones leaves and directs her talent of being the most scatter-brained girl in the Senior Class and having more fun being it to Martha Ashburn. We know you'll have a ball Martha!! Bobby Beaver leaves his entry in the annual rat race of Mrs. Faubian s English IV Class to Richard Reagon, Roland Beaver, and Larry Slaughter. We expect another first with “Oil Can Harry ’ boys! Tommy Criswell leaves his ability to keep the class in an uproar with his bright remarks and questions to Coley Glen McPherson. Mona Campbell wills her way to have a ball at the Jr.-Sr. Banquet to Anne Hickman, Barbara Bar-ganier, and Patrica Wilson. Annette Rader leaves her ability to be sweet and cute and everyone s favorite to Nina Sealy. Don’t you think we made a wise choice? Marilyn Ashburn wills and directs her good times with the gang after play practice to Linda Long, Beth Sheilds, Angie McCoslin, and Barbara Henderson. Simie Berry wills her ability to catch a Mart Boy to Annice Murry. It doesn’t seem that Annice needs any pointers. Aubrey DeBrock and Marvin Kinsala leave all the mileage on their cars and the good times they had putting them on to Joe Leach, Tom Hawkins, and James Adkins. Look out Pedestrians! Marian Dick wills his love for bookkeeping to Charles Eady. Marian tells us you are really looking forward to this Charles. Barbara Henderson leaves her great talent of spiking the ball in the volleyball games to Jimmy Lou Gayden, Donnette Reese and Pat LeNoir. Come back with another trophy girls. Linda Kilgore and Gene Sharp leave their ability to always get along to Mary Ann Thomas and Perry Nettles. It looks like they have already started this. Cecil Wolf leaves and directs his ability to be Senior Class President and still make his grades and be salutatorian to any deserving Junior who can keep up with him. Virginia Henderson wills her ability to be exempt in chemistry to Patsy Hughes, Ann Herod, and Neva Jo Coe. Suzanne Caudle leaves her ability to go with an underclassman boy to Ann Turner and Francene Steele. Look out boys! Shirley Webster bequeaths her shorthand ability to Wanda Lewis, Jerry Shreve, and Maurveneen Brasher. Terry Don Roach and Freddy Parmley leave their athletic ability to Gant McPherson and Dennis Walker. Combine your ability with theirs and you’ll be All-State boys. I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint Mr. H. O. Whitehurst an executor of this our last will and testament of the Senior Class of 1957. In testimony whereof, I have signed my name hereto, in the presence of the Junior and Senior Classes, my attesting witnesses, who, at my request and in my presence, and in the presence of each other, sign their name hereto on this the 28th day of May, 1957. Marilyn Ashburn Testator American Legion Awards D. A. R. Award DAY Agriculture Awards Girls’ Basketball Awards Class History PROPHECY CLASS OF 1957 by Janis Jones Four days ago I received an invitation to attend the reunion of the Class of “57’ at Groesbeck High School. By coincidence the date of the reunion-May 29, 1977, and the launching of the first space ship to Mars was one and the same. Because I was financing the space adventure, I had the responsibility of choosing an impartial group of passengers. As I started to write my intention not to attend the reunion, I suddenly thought, “What a gay group of kids that Class of “57“ was; they are just the type to fly to Mars. I immediately instructed my private secretary to contact every member of the class and get their reactions, to a reunion in outer space. You will be interested to know what she found out about that group of my classmates. Marilyn Ashburn is a retired English Professor. She is having the time of her life traveling all over the world, since she inherited ten million dollars. Bobby Beaver was easily found at Beaver’s Pharmacy in the now thriving metropolis of Groesbeck, Texas. There’s a rumor that Bobby owns half the town, but he’s keeping it a secret until he gets the other half. Woodie Baldwin Henderson is very busy with her oldest daughter’s graduation from high school. She really needs the vacation. Virginia Henderson has just won the Pillsbury Cake Baking Contest; she is the Betty Crocker of our time. I hope there will be an oven aboard ship. The former Linda Kilgore, world famous designer has flown to South America where her husband, Gene Sharp is an engineer. Tommye Browder, the world’s most famous architect was found entertaining world dignitaries in his New York penthouse. Tommye offered to donate any needed funds (naturally I refused). Barbara Stohler, a registered nurse, has recently been named as head of all Red Cross operations abroad. Barbara is famous for her work in this field. Aubrey DeBrock and Tommy Geren, petroleum engineers, are on safari deep in the African jungle. They are determined to find geologist Kenneth Neyland’s secret uranium mine. It’s reported to be the most productive in the world. Barbara Henderson is in Indo-China with her mis sionary husband whom she met while attending Baylor University. The former Simie Berry is happily married and she has been named Mrs. America of 1977. Annette Rader, Head of the Texas Highway Department, consulted Governor Cecil Wolf and they both decided to put aside fheir important duties to be with the class. Patty Hanyan who had previously been voted the world’s most outstanding airline hostess has married the owner of Pan American Air Lines. Spike McLean the famous surgeon, has completed an impossible operation on Marion Dick’s brain. The odd shape of Marion’s brain could have been caused by a sharp whack on the head administered by Suzanne Caudle, the anesthetist. Nurse Caudle found that ether didn’t faze Marion. Mona Campbell and Shirley Webster who have returned from the Riveria where they were vacationing with their husbands, have already purchased entire space wardrobes. Terry Don Roach is President of the Gulf Oil Company, and to think that he started at Sadler’s Service Station. Senator J. Fredrick Parmley is planning to run for President in the forthcoming election. Never underestimate the ambition of a Parmley. General Marvin Kinsala (five stars no less) has been commissioned by the President of the United States to be present in the space ship, and see that everything runs smoothly. Nuclear physicist Thomas E. Criswell who is in charge of the development of the space trip employed ace pilot Billy Avant. Patti Franklin, the owner of the famous Franklin Quarter-horse Ranch, promised to come if she could bring her registered bulldogs. Tomorrow morning 28 members of the Class of “57“ will meet at White Sands, Neveda, for a class reunion in outer space. Wish us luck. We’ll need it.
