Muazc Instrumental Musxc The closing of school last May dxdn t close the band season No slr We soon started the summer band concerts Thxs kept us busy two mghts a week for practxce on Monday and the concert on Wednesday mght ln August our busiest summer month we were call: d upon to perform at the bold1ers Reunxon and later to go to the Grant Homecomxng At the fxrst Band meetmg of thls school year held August 29th offxcers were elected They were Presrdent G1lbertKr1s1nger Vxce Pres1dent Franklm Garey Secretary Treasurer Doris Hemphxll Lmbrarxans Bxlly Joe England and Laurel Wrllxams At once we started to work on the job of perfectmg our slxty slx member Marrhmg Band mto a smooth workmg umt Learmng our routlnes and new drllls proved to be a work not only for our leader Barbara Lxndvall but also the rest of us We marched for the four home football games besldes journeylng to Oakland After the practxce ID the afternoon wxth the bands from Walnut Amta Avoca Ellxott and Oakland we put on a demonstratlon of our marclung routxnes before the flag raxslng ceremomes The other bands gave thelr demonstratwns and at half trme all Jomed 1n the mass band to play several numbers October 4th found us at the Mxdwest Marchlng Band Contest ln Omaha put on by the Ak Sar Ben Rodeo We shared top honors ln our class with the Tabor Band recexvmg ll ratmgs A week later October llth we went to Atlantlc to march ln the Fxreman s Parade The followxng Saturday October l5th the State Marchlng Band Contest was held at the Atlantlc Hxgh School Athletxc Fxeld Contests for the Flag Twxrlers and Baton Tw1rlers were held ln the mormng and for bands xn the after noon Agaln Grxswold and Tabor recexved Dxvt When the football season ended the Marchtng Band came xnslde and Mr Newcom our dxrector soon had a f1fty plece Concert Band functmmng smoothly Wlth the start of the second semester preparatxon began for contests ln Aprxl We sent small groups and solos to Greenfxeld and large groups to Clarmda The followmg entered mn the serles SOLO.: Cornet Solo Russell Bees Wxllow Echoes Clarmet Solos Royal Blerbaum Lakme George Keebler Enchantment Dean Zxmmerman Nocturne Saxophone Solos E flat Sax Bxll England The Duchess Mlrlam Bterbaum Waltz Llewellyn B flat Tenor B111 England Concerto ln G Mmor Plano Solo Ruby Strom Rondo Caprlccxoso Barxtone Euph Don Stembeck Carmval of Venxce ENSEMBLES Clarmet Quartet Alabama Sketches Saxophone Quartet Crystal Suxte Cornet Tr1o Trumpters Three Brass Sextet Evenxng Idyls Drum Ensemble Axr Express LARGE GROUP Band Trlumph of lshtar 57 O . - - v - Q . . . , . . , .
