A distinguished Jewish scholar of the twelfth century, Ben Ezra, by his writings, sug- gested the ideas used by Browning. Selected lines from this Vig- orous poem with its undertone of faith in God have been used as the theme for the 1950 Volume of the Marionette. Page two
