♦+s REFLECTOR The Student Council The Student Council, established in 1923, is composed of nine students and of two faculty advisers. The president is chosen from the student body at large, seven of the members are chosen from semesters two through eight, and one member from the Girls’ Council. One adviser is selected by the Council, one by the Principal. Each year this group has a specific purpose to accomplish. The project of this year’s group is to assign a certain duty to each semester to be perfected. This organization is the leader of Greensboro High School. It is not here to boss or to spy, but to sponsor worthy activities and to uphold the honor of the school by seeing that each individua l student maintains a high standard. 28

3k REFLECTOR Torchlight Society Four qualities seldom found together—leadership, service, • scholarship, and character—are essential in order to be a member of Torchlight Society, the local branch of the National Honor Society. From the upper fourth of the senior class new members are tapped each semester. A good scholastic record is a prerequisite, but in no way are the other three characteristics minor ones. The new members are given a torch as a symbol of the society, and as a recognition, not merely of things achieved, but of a desire for future attainment. 29
