Our hearts were beating high in anticipation of what new adventures we might en- counter. We were happy to welcome a new girl, Beverly Boston, into our class. Wessoon were at work at our new subjects, algegra, general science, English, manual training and home economics. We elected as class officersg Beverly Boston, presidentg Carolyn Kallem, vice-president, Patricia Biery, secretaryg and Phyllis Rosenberg, treasurer. The outstanding event in this our first year was Freshmen Initiation. We made quite a parade as we were asked to entertain each school room. Barbara Baer was scrub womang Beverly Boston, football player, Patricia Biery, Cave woman, Phyllis Rosenberg, glamour girl, narjorie Mudgett, fat lady, Carolyn Kallem, Moonbeam Mcswineg Laverne Grief, Hula dancer, Tom Wooters, Indian squaw with papooseg Edwin Baer, bouncing baby, and Joe House, was UThe Thingn in long flannels. After the eventful evening party which included the traditional hot peppers and the freshman clean up, we felt that we had earned our place as members of Grimes High School. We were joined in the mid-year by Allen Guess from Maxwell, who participated in basketball, along with Edwin Baer who also went out for football. The girls that were represented in sports were Patricia Biery, Carolyn Kallem, Barbara Baer, and Marjorie Mudgett. Carolyn Kallem was chosen cheer leader. Marjorie Mudgett, Carolyn Kallem, and Barbara Baer played in the band, and all the boys and girls were out for Glee Club. We feel that we have completed a very successful year un- der our sponsor Hrs. Schlueter.

Bloomfield Gerald Lloyd Plumb Peitzman Soplrvmvrm The Sophomores of the year of'l95l-52 entered with eleven members on the 3rd day of September. At the beginning of the school year we elected officers of our class. we chose as president--Roger Bloomfield, vice-president--Melvin Wiles, secretary-- David Wiese, treasurer--Jerold Plumb. The subjects that we were assigned were speech, English, geometry, and world history. In November our speech class went on a tour in which we visited WOI-TV Ames, and radio stations in Des Moines, and then completed the tour at a show in the alternoon. In February our speech class presented a play, NThe Headles:Ghost.W We al- so took part in sports this year. In footballwe were representedby Melvin Wiles Larry Seibert, Roger B100mf1e1d, and James Biddle. In basketball the girls tak- ing part were Sylvia Pinegar, Marilyn Bohrofen, and Ruth Kinsey, and the boys were Melvin Wiles, Larry Seibert, James Biddle, Ronald Hayes, and Loyd Peitzman. To end up our activities of the year, we had e class party. We will agree we all had a very enjoyable year with our sponsor, Mrs. Johnson.
