The curtain of memory goes up on our first day in high school. In wondrous awe, we watched the upperclassmen and tried to imitate their actions. In a sh6rt time our stumbling steps were replaced by swift, sure-footed strides. In our first year of high school Mr. Putrell, our principal and Mr. Bradley, the agriculture teacher, took the eighth and ninth grades to Raleigh. There we saw the great documents and buildings thr t we had studied in history. During the year we also made an educational tour to Washington and Bath. The revealing spotlight of our youth moves on. The days of this year passed rapidly. Thanksgiving came and went. Then came the Christmas holidays. After we had returned to our task after New Year ' s Day and all seemed to be going well. The next thing we knew school was out. The next year started and after some months our eyes were turned toward the Junior-Senior Banquet. This was very exciting with speeches to write and say, but with the help of Mrs. Clark and Miss Albritton we had a successful banquet. We gained two new students after Christmas, Prances and Pete Phillips. We were very happy to have them with us. With the coming of another September, many of us were ready to return to Grifton High School for our last year. The session was a busy one; and we elected as our president, Billy Dunn; our secretary, Irma Wainwright, treasurer, Jessie Pugh Quinerly and reporter. Prances Phillips. How pleased we were when we received our Senior priviligesi We were thrilled when we made our tour to the Nation ' s capitol, Washington, D. C. How very dignified felti We chose as our colors green and white and the white rose rs our flower. Our motto was Not to the top but climbing. Just so year by year we have come to a realization of graduating from high school. who knows what the future holds in store?
