GRIFFONELL 1972 Griffith Institute and Central School Springville, New York Volume XLVII 2 Time as I’ve known it doesn’t take much time to pass by me. Minutes into days turn into months turn into years, they hurry by me. Still I love to see the sun go down and the world go around. Dreams full of promises, hopes for the future—I’ve had many. Dreams I can't remember now, hopes that I’ve forgotten, faded memories. Still I love to see the sun go down and the world go around. I love to see the morning as it steals across the sky And I love to remember and I love to wonder why. 6 TABLE OF CONTENTS FACULTY 15 SENIORS 35 UNDERCLASSMEN 87 THE PEOPLE 109 The Yearbook staff wishes to present the 1972 Griffonell. I. As a teacher, he has taught us to express our own opinions in all areas of study. He has been active in the technical aspects of Theatre Workshop productions. Above all, he has been a friend to those who have approached him with their problems. David J. Ciszak was the victim of a fatal disease in March, 1965. In 1970, John Ulrich also lost his life as the victim of a kidney disease. Walk upon me, the sands of yesterday, glittering under the silvery rays of moonshine. Wade into me, the seas of yesterday, rumbling deep beneath my waves. Walk in front of me, the shadows of yesterday, fading with the twilight. Run out of me, the rains of yesterday, as I cry our drenching tears. Look up at me, the clouds of yesterday, filtered by the sunrays. Reach up to me, the leaves of yesterday, falling from age. Hold on to me, for I am yesterday, perhaps today. 74 —Pam Bowser EXCHANGE STUDENTS My AFS experience in Ecuador this past summer was one of the most meaningful phases in my life. It was a wonderful opportunity to live with people of another coun- try, culture, and customs and learn to live as they do. Life in Loja, the city where I lived, is a bit backward compared to the life we know here in Springville. I learned to live com- fortably without certain luxuries but I also learned to appreciate the modern conveniences we have here in America. I have a very nice family in Ecuador and there will always be a place in my heart for them. Someday I hope to return and be united with them again. I am thankful I had this op- portunity and I’m very proud to be able to represent America and its ideals in other parts of the world. Thank you Pam Glass American Field Service is not only AFS, it is a big family where everybody works with goodwill, warmth and love. It is a door unlocked for everyone that thinks that understanding, friendship and love are the only steps for peace. One day, I joined my hands with many others, different colors, different languages, but friendly. I felt really happy. Maybe one day it could be possible in the whole world, for everybody. AFS and, through it, Springville and my family gave me the opportunity to know how the people are, to share your school, life and community. Gl is a great school, whenever I needed help there was someone to give it or just smile and say keep cool, teachers or students. I want to thank each one and everyone for making my stay here an unforgettable experience. One day, come to my country, come to see the green plains, the forests, the high mountains and how blue is our sky, too. I’m sure you’ll find the doors open in each house and a guitar singing those old melodies that are always in our minds, remembrances of past times and a glass of wine if you are thirsty! Argentina will welcome you. Mabel Caviglia IKAILUA10 IUUK I’m certainly glad I came to “the States”. It has been a most rewarding experience to be living in Springville with the Griffins. There is much to say about the AFS experience. Today I’d like to tell you my joy to have been with you, hoping that I’ll see you again and as soon as you get a chance, any time don’t be afraid, pop over the ocean. I can’t help believing in my own mind, I know I’m gonna hate to see it end I’ve seen a lot of sunshine, I’ve slept out in the rain Spent a night or two all my own, had myself some friends Spent some time in my own home I have to say it now—it’s been a good life all in all It’s really fine to have a chance to hang around, And talk of poems, prayers and promises and things that we believe in. How sweet it is to love someone, how right it is to care How long it's been since yesterday and what about tomorrow And what about our dreams and all the memories we share? 115 116 117 This page is sponsored by the Springville Hotel, Springville, N.Y.
