GRIFFONELL 1967 Griffith Institute and Control School Springville, New York Volume XLII 7o everything is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven . . . A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to reap . . . A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance . . . A time to get and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away.” Until now our lives have been inseparably interwoven with the threads of time by the common season of our youth. As seniors we pause, and can sense the impending change of season. We recapture a moment past, a memory of our last, four years, only to find it soon lost in the twilight of time. Now we realize we must look to the future-must pluck and harvest that which has been planted in us in our brief eighteen years-those seven thousand days of time gone forever. Now we must plant in others the seeds of knowledge which have been so carefully sown in us. It is now our season to nurture and build up elsewhere the miracle of life. For everything there is a season and a time . . . A time to keep, And a time to cast away. The office of Assistant Principal re- quires immeasurable tact, patience, and under- this capacity filled these shown by the genial rela- have main- tained with the faculty and the students. Your quiet efficiency and concern for both the school and the individual has earned our respect and gratitude. With this dedication we would like to express our thanks and sincere best wishes to you, Mr. Devitt. 2 BOARD OF EDUCATION Mr. G. Decker, Dr. R. Whitehead, Mrs. M. Seider, Mr. S. Wallace-President, Mr. D. Solak-Vice-President, Mr. F. Agle, Mr. L. Williams-Business Manager, Mr. J. Ballantyne, Miss E. Wulff-clerk, Mr. F. Fineour- Acting District Principal. Mr. Devitt Acting High School Principal 4 Congratulations graduates! Once again the time has come for the graduates to leave us. We are happy for you and your future successes, but we are also a little sod. You have been with us for ashorttime, a portion of your life, and we have come to know you a little. We have shared many experiences de- signed to make your graduation more meaning- ful, and hope that life's plan for you will be more fruitful because of us. The world you face is not an easy one to understand, but the forces that control it will accept you, if you speak loudly enough. Remember to smile now and then, and come back to see us. William Devitt Education is a never ending process. It is our sincere hope that, after you leave the halls of G.I., you may ever maintain an open mind toward new ideas, new situations, and new problems as you meet them along life's way. May our judgement and decisions follow the consideration of collected facts, the thoughtful weighing of evidence, and regard for the rights and welfare of your fellow men. Congratulations and Best Wishes Frederic K. Fineour Acting District Principal Mr. Fineour Acting District Principal GRADUATION COMMITTEE Back row: Mr. R. Hutchinson, Mr. R. Stead, Mr. E. Gnann, Mr. W. Devitt, Mr. P. Emerling, Mr. A. Brown. Front row: Mr. G. Delisle, Miss E. Gale, Mrs. E. Whitehead, Mr. H. Reif, Mr. F. Fineour, Mr. E. Bartoo, Mr. C. Whitmer, Mr. J. L. Anderson. Missing: Mrs. S. Cranmer. I sincerely wish much happiness and success to the members of the Class of 67 . Your present interest in graduation and the future leoves little time to look bock and contemplate the fine education you have received at G.l. What you have learned takes many paths. Perhaps the most valuable of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not. That is the kind of education that comes from inside us and very little from books. It is some- thing that we acquire from the example of good men and apply to our own actions as occasion arises. It is gumption at work. Herbert R. Reif IN MEMORY The class of 1967 is honored to dedicate this page to the memory of Mr. Charles Knapp. The job of District Principal is not an easy one. It is necessary to please the public and still run the school harmoniously. Upon Mr. Knapp's shoulders lay the responsibility of coordinating educational needs through the Board of Education, planning and supervising new and existing school buildings, acting as a target for all public opinion, and demonstrating primary authority in final decisions. Mr. Knapp had a difficult job, but he handled every situation with the utmost tact and wisdom. For this reason he will remain in our memories of high school. 6 SENIOR HIGH FACULTY Business Department Mr. Whitmer Music Department Mr. Delisle Department Head Language Department Miss Gale Department Head Mr. Kayes Mr. Priester Mrs. Barie Mrs. Brown Mr. Arbore Miss Mead Miss Reiter 8 Driver Education 9 Mrs. Smith Mr. Seales Librarian Mrs. Dudley Guidance Department Mr. Gnann Mr. Kaufmann Reading Coordinator Mrs. Knueppel Miss Neary Member of History Depart- ment, Manager of the Pen- cil Box. In our junior high years little progress was made. However, as freshmen we were very successful in our stationery sale, dances, and candy sales. Class unity took hold in our sophomore year and our progress was more profound as we undertook the traditional sweatshirt sale and the Christmas Ball. As juniors, we ventured into a year of real significance. Its exciting events consisted of our Sadie Hawkins Dance, Christ- mas card Sale, class rings, and our Junior Prom. This year, as Seniors, we have successfully completed our Magazine Sale, Computer Dance, and our candy sales. As the climax to the biggest year in our history, we all look forward with great excitement toward our Washington Trip, Com- mencement, and Our Senior Ball. 41 SENIOR POLL 1. Class History To start our treasury, our class sold food at the home football games in the Junior High School. Since our class is not going on a Senior Trip, we have not participated in major money-making projects. In our freshman year we held several candy sales, and our moving-up day dance proved to be quite successful. This year we have donated to the Chaffee Hospital Fund, and we are looking forward to the Christmas Ball. We anticipate future profitable years at G.l. They realize that only when they think together and work as a team can they achieve success. There is no time for indecision or hesitation in a game for everything may depend on split-second timing. It is necessary, then, for the player to be able to anticipate his teammate's and opponent's thoughts and react accordingly. It is also necessary to think only of the goal and, forgetting all else, concentrate all the energies and determination on reaching it. If these efforts are met with defeat, acceptance of the challenge of winning next time is what makes a good athlete, no matter what the outcome of the game.
