The Student Council is organized accord- ing to the pattern of our national govern- ment. Its functions are divided into three areas: administrative, legislative, and judicial. The administration division is the coordina- tion agency for all student activities, respon- sible for chartering all student organizations and scheduling all their school activities. The legislative division is the law-making body for the entire student constituency. The judi- cial division is the Student Court. The Student Court's function is to try mem- bers of the student body who break laws of the school and are summoned to appear before the court by the hall monitors. At least one member of each class helps form the jury who hears the various cases and de- cides verdicts. The Judge decides the sen- tence according to the severity of the case. Fines and penalties are imposed upon guilty offenders. The money obtained from fines is placed in the Student Exchange fund at the end of the year and assists in bringing those wonderful Foreign Students to Griffith Insti- tute.

MR. WM. W. SAWIN HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL Mr. Sowin was graduated from Lowville Free Academy. After attending Hamilton College for one year, he enlisted in the Navy where he was chosen to further his education while in service. Mr. Sawin was then commissioned as on officer in the Reserves in which he is still active. Upon completion of active duty, he returned to Hamil- ton College. He holds a Master of Education from St. Lawrence University. His first posi- tion was at Constableville, New York, where he taught mathematics and science for six years and was principal for five years. His next posi- tion was at Lake Shore Central School. He then came to Springville, having been appointed principal of our high school. Mr. Sawin was married in July of 1957 and has two sons. He and his family reside at 639 East Main Street, Springville.
