Oeci Although this yearbook mirrors the last activities of the 1958 graduating class, it will reflect only the beginning of many memories for our new principal, Mr. Clint R. Kelly. From the very first day he has continued to show his wonderful qualities of leadership, friendli- ness, and concern for the students, and the ability to smoothly administer the functioning of Griffith High School. Before coming to Griffith this year, Mr. Kelly had experience as a high school principal. Never- theless, his dealings this year have been with en- tirely new faces and personalities, and he has certainly met with everyone ' s approval. Certainly one of the many reasons he has been so well-accepted, especially by the students, is his high regard for the well-established traditions that have been built up here at Griffith. Any minor changes that may have been made have only resulted in decided improvements. We only hope that Mr. Kelly is, and will con- tinue to be, pleased with our student body and everything connected with Griffith High School. We all extend our wishes for his continued success. 7

Ocvt Sufi. u tte«tcCe tt A fortunate thing happened eleven years ago when Mr. Eldon Ready moved to Griffith to fill the post of our high school principal. Since that time Griffith schools have experienced their greatest growth. A new one million dollar high school has been built. A site has been purchased for a new elementary school to be built within the next year. Mr. Ready received his undergraduate degree at Indiana State Teachers College, and his master ' s degree at the University of Chicago. Well-qualified for his job, he has just completed his second year as superintendent of Griffith schools. Mr. Ready has exerted much influence upon the community, the teachers, and the student. He enjoys and deserves all the respect shown him. Everyone is very thankful to have someone as efficient and yet as understanding as Mr. Ready. We all hope to refer to him as superintendent of our schools for many years to come. 6

According to the Indiana constitution, education is a func- tion of the state. The local board of school trustees represents local people, and therefore, the state of Indiana in conduct and organization of its public schools. The board formulates school policy, levies taxes to support schools, and in all other ways legalizes the establishment and operation of schools at the local level. We feel our Griffith School Board has done an admirable job in planning new buildings and acquiring a competent staff and administrators. Membership on the school board entails many hours of planning in the areas of school policy and finance.
