FOREWORD The Panther, our guiding motif, is a symbol of Griffith High School. It has been, whether consciously or unconsciously, like a guiding star pointing toward new horizons. As you turn through the pages of memories, leaf by leaf, at present or in the future, may the symbol of the Panther carry a thrill and a renewed feeling of loyalty to Griffith High School and the various activities in which you partici- pated. The success of any school depends upon the planning and organization that goes on behind the scenes. We rarely show our appreciation, but now we can be thankful indeed for what these men have done to provide a better school for the stu- dents and the community. FORWARD EVER: BACKWARD NEVER Our senior motto, is one of which we can all be proud; one which should give us inspiration and satisfaction, thus sus- taining each of us as we follow our individual paths of life. For twelve years we have looked forward to being seniors, an important year of all our lives. As we leave the portals of our dear G.H.S. there is sadness in our hearts, and yet, as the gate closes behind us, we are looking Forward Ever; Back- ward Never . 14 SENIOR ALBUM ALLENE ABRAHAM Washington High School; Y-Teens 1,2, 3, 4; G.A.A. 1,2; High Lights 1,2; Modern Dance 1,2; Archery 1; Dramatics 3. Football Our fine athletic record is one of which each of us may well be proud. Our program is broad -- 75% of our male school population participates in the intramural basketball program. Mr. Sanders, Mr. Beck, and Mrs. Stanczak put long hours and much effort into making our athletic program one of the finest in the Calumet area. Through the untiring efforts of this fine staff our boys are learning rigidity of self discipline, good sportsmanship, health habits, and the development of lasting values in cooperation, respect and loyalty. CHEERLEADERS These vivacious girls, dressed in the traditional black and gold colors of our school, are always found cheering the team on to victory. Their enthusiasm, which spreads throughout the crowd, has been a great contributing factor to the success of our team. Left to right: Betty Rogers, Susan Berg, Beverly Black, and Ann Seitzinger. The Jr. Varsity cheerleaders lead all yells for the B team. Their interest reflects the ardent zeal of the whole student body of G.H.S. for basketball. Row 1. The Panthers, according to predictions, were the underdogs, but determination and hard fighting proved too much for the Crown Point Bulldogs. When the gun sounded at the end of the game, the Panthers had achieved a 20-7 victory. CROWN POINT GAME Now where in the world did they come from??? Many times they had the opportunity to taste the sweetness of victory. The qualities of sportmanship can behest summarized by using a quotation from the pages of a near-by school paper: Griffith is a good example of a student-backed team. The auditorium is packed every game, and the students really cheer. BASKETBALL ACTION JUNIOR VARSITY 9 i F Row 1. Frank Barnett, Dave Saker.Dale Clark, Bob Rist. Row 2. As one student so aptly put into words: In him is found the character which parents and students desire in a leader. His un- tiring effort to make G. H. S. a better school is his ultimate goal.
