E. Lee Rebels. Lee, hoping for one of the best seasons it has ever had, was favored to win. On the other hand, the Eagles, season was expected to be slow because they were hard hit by graduation and left short on man power and experience. Most of the fans were ready to settle for a scoreless tie. The only score of the game came with only seven and a half minutes left to play. Leeis Jimmy Cavan got away from the Eagles in the rain and the mud to run forty- five yards for a touchdown. Until the second half the Eagles had traded blow for blow with the more experienced Rebels, but they were unable to stop Cavan. The game ended with the stubborn Eagles yielding to Lee 7-0. Griffin, seeking its first win of the year, met Sprayberry for its second game. The Eagles went ahead in the hrst quarter when Bay Cole recovered a Spray berry fumble and ran fifty-five yards for a touchdown. Tommy lson plunged over for the extra point. Sprayberry, however, after a fifty-six yard drive, tied up the score in the second period. After a scoreless third period, Sprayberry was again put in scoring position when Griffin fumbled. Sprayberry now led 13-7. Late in the fourth quarter Grifhn began its drive for thc Sprayberry goal. Bobby Gene Pierce hit Jimmy Terrell with a screen pass which kept the Griffin drive moving. The Eagles' march continued, and Ray Cole plunged in from the two for the tieing touchdown. Thus they scored the winning extra poi11t with less than two minutes left in the crucial game. The final score was Griffin 14- and Spraybcrry 13. R. L. Osborne, a new team in Region 41-AAA competition, dealt the Eagles a 20-13 sub-regional setback in their third game of the JOHN WALLACE HUGH NTCLAURIN Fullback Tackle season. Osborne ran over the Griffin defense in the first quarter to lead the Eagles by thirteen points. The speedy running of A. J. Bethune enabled Griliin to score early in the second period. Jimmy Terrell made the extra point. The Cardinals, however, took the kickoff and drove sixty yards in fourteen plays for their final touchdown. The half ended with Osborne leading 20-7. The two teams exchanged punts in the third period and then Griffin set a touchdown drive in motion. Cole, Terrell, and Bethune hammered through for two first downs. Bethune then broke through for a forty-three yard run that put the Eagles at the Osborne one. Terrell rammed over for the touchdown. Neither team was able to score again, and the game ended with Osborne winning 20-13. The injury-riddled Eagles were all but eliminated from the 4--AAA title race when they lost their fourth game of the season to GMA, 14-0. GMA scored its first touchdown early in the first quarter when Griffin fumbled and the Kadets went over on a pass play. In the second period GMA intercepted a Grifhn pass. The Kadets then used a pair of passes which put them over for their second touch- down. The Eagles had several good drives but the tight GMA defense was able to stop them each time. In their fifth game of the year, the scrappy Eagles were nipped short by the South Cobb team, 7-6. Although it was the Eagles, third loss, coaches had high praise for the strongly improved Griffin team. Griffin took the opening kickoff and drove 77 yards for a touchdown. The game was a close fight all the way. South Cobb finally had a successful drive in the third quarter and went over for the touchdown. They also made the extra point, which clinched the game for them. . . . We want a touchdown over there! r,,g,,,s,'hlgw Quan,
