'il' ALM A M A'l'ER I Our strong band can ne'er be broken Formed at Griffin High, Far surpassing wealth unspoken, Sealed by friendship's tie. CHORUS Liit the chorus, speed it onwardg Loud her praises cry. Hail to thee, our Alma Mater! Hail to Griflin High! II School life here at best is passing, Gliding swiftly by. Let us pledge in word and deed Our love for Griffin High. Twenty-eight ICIHSS Poem Against the pallid eastern sky, Where sinks the fiery morning star While purple shadows fade and die, There looms a goal that gleams afar. The lark's sweet note begins the tune, Accompanied by the sweet bluebell, Stop not on earth, but climb for aye- The chorus rings from out the dell, Across the lovely morning hush There sounds amidst the golden dawn, Yet echoed back by even the thrush, The charge to march forever on. The lark's sweet note begins the tune, Accompanied by the sweet bluebell, Stop not at allg march on and on- The chorus rings from out the dell. Then march and march forever on, Nor stop nor rest till you have fought To stand, when all the rest have gone, And claim for yours what most you sought- The lark's sweet note begins the tune, Accompanied by the sweet bluebell, You've won your spurs! now rest in peace-- The chorus rings from out the dell. H. S., and stands out as a red letter day in the school calendar. Each year the outstanding students in scholarship and various activities at Griifin High are accorded a public expression cf appreciation by the faculty and student body. The teachers select the students whom they consider All-Round. They are deco- rated with a gold ribbon badge. Those pupils who have achieved a specified scholastic average receive the blue badge of scholarship. The perfect attendance group boasts a red ribbon, and a white badge signifies outstanding extra curricular activity. Although the intrinsic value of the short red, white, blue, or gold ribbon is very small, the honor conferred upon the pupil wearing the emblems is, indeed, one to be appreciated. His tackling made him a star player and won for him a name that G. H. S. honors. WAYNE BROWN End Wayne was noted for his ability to catch passesg thus he was always a threat when in the game. JACK SHIVERS Guard Pal's first year on the squad was a success. This sturdy little guard stopped many plays in the line. JESSE PRITCHETT Tackle Red had a fighting spirit that was not to be overcome. The Gold and Black will lose him through graduation, and his position will be hard to fill. PHILIP SMAHA End Tight, playing his last year on the varsity, was always stopping opposing plays. His hard hitting will be missed greatly next year. BILL JONES Quarter-back Bill was selected captain of the Gold and Black, and well deserved the honor. Although Bill was not flashy, he was a very consistent player, with a spirit that could never be beaten. Seventy-two JENOUS LANGFORD Half-back Jenous displayed marked ability to play football. Because of his splendid record for 1931, he was chosen captain of football team of 1932. GLENN MCCARTY Half-back Although Glenn was a new man at G. H. S., he made a wonderful record and won his fame largely by the splendid blocking he was capable of doing. HAROLD McKNEELY Full-back Mac was the man who could be depended on when yardage was needed to score another victory for G. H. S. He was a star player, carrying the spirit of G. H. S. into every game. Bill Jones, guard, was the man with the even temper. One could always depend on ol' Bill to play heads-up basketball. John Polansky, forward, with a little more experience will prove a valuable asset to the team. Get in there and fight, John. Captain Pritchett played guard, and, man, when he stretched those arms out no one could pass! Peahead Austin was our dashing forward. He wasn't satisfied unless that ball rung up two points, and he 'very seldom missed. Jack Shivers, guard, lived up to his rep, He was a slick number. Wayne Brown, forward, played a consistent game. Do 'em some, ol' kid! You can't keep a good man down. Coach Covington McMillan is last, but not least by any means! L a mar Reid The Grimn High Track team, coached by Covington McMillan, had a successful year. They had two dual meets during the season, winning from Russell High and losing' by a close margin to Carrollton A. and M. The team showed excellent ability in the district meet, winning four first places. The men who were honored with Hrst places in the district traveled to Athens for the state meet, but were unlucky in placing. Most of the track men are seniors, but there are some good runners coming up to fill their shoes. Personals McKneely was the mainstay of the team. Pritchett was a valuable member of the team. Sampson looked like a Greek athlete on the field. Roddy, as captain, served G. H. S. faithfully. Thurston will fill the fast shoes of McKneely. Hemphill is good and only a Junior.
