The Red skins were highly favored, but a spunky Heyworth team was not to be counted short, and Gridley had a hard time of winnlng by four points, 62 58 The second game the Redskins played was agalnst McLea who had a very tough team, Many people expected an up set in this game, but the Redskins d1d a fine job of re bounding at both ends, and with the team as a whole hav trouble in winning 6h 53, This win enabled the Redsklns to move into the finals and play Octavia, who had upset Chenoa, for the championship, This game wlll long be remembered by the Gridley team and fans. The Redskins trailed the Octavia team most of the first half and were behind 22 19 at the half, The Gridley team came out with renewed energy, but could not overcome the Octavia lead until the end of the third quar ter when they went ahead by one polnt, The fourth quarter was played on even terms and when Frank Grusy fouled out, the Gridley hopes faded, but great spot shooting by Rog Gerig and Dale Wlegand kept the boys in the ball game, and finally they went ahead near the end to win SO MS. It was a team victory, and everyone was greatly joyed over the final outcome. We lost three during the year and gained three Civics, we visited a regular meeting of the village board. At the conclusion of the business the board opened the meeting to questions from the class and showed us the flre truck we also vlsited the polls on election day The board here, too, greeted us cor dially, showlng us the registration book, the bundle of absentee ballots and answering questions from the class Flfteen of our group took part in the Spring Fes tival at Lexington EIGHTH GRADE When school opened in September our class numbered elghteen, but at the beginning of the second semester three new students were enrolled Namely Betty Simp k1DS of Decatur, Illinois, Merle Arbogast of El Paso, and Melvin Shoemaker of Pekin. The eighth grade class participated in the annual ley acted as host to the McLean County He vyweight Basket ball Tournament and the State Sectlonal Heavyweight Bas ketball Tournament, therefore, the eighth grade class was instrumental in supervising and running the concession stands. One member of our class, 1-'ee Cargill, participated in the State Sectional Track Meet held at Pekin and re ceived a second place ribbon whlch entitled him to Parti cipate in the pole vault event at the state meet held at Normal Ill. on Saturday, Hay 16, 1953.
