PROPHECY Slnce 1952, I have been employed as secretary to Professor Lynn Rlnkcnberger, president of Yale Univer sity Recently I was given a month's vacation, and I used the eppertunlty to take an extended trlp to the Pacific coast I boarded the traln at Boston Upon beardlng the traln, I was surprised to flnd that the man who took my ticket was Jim Burgess, one of my classmates at G C H S In Cleveland, I stopped to attend the Barnum k Bailey circus which was performing there at that time Durln the course of the evening Marianne Lehmann and Anne Hayes co starred ln an act called the nDaring Duo Delightsn Next morning, in glancing over the paper, I noticed these headllnes, 'Calhoon Truman te compete in national debate on steel situation' In reading further, I learned that Mr Calhoon is a leading Kan sas City lawyer. At noon the next day, I bearded the traln for Chi cage, where I was to meet Dorothy Stoller, who was to During the afternoon, I went to the dlner for a cup of coffee Upon entering I heard someone say uHi, Marllynl' I looked around, and whom should I see but Mary McKinley She told me she had been visitlng rel atives ln the East, and was returning to her heme in Fairbury, where she had been llving since her marriage. Mary stated that her cousln, Wwlmpu, is engaged in farming on his fatheris farm north of Gridley, Upon arriving at Chicago, I went immediately to the Sherman Hotel, where I was to meet Dorothy, who was receptionist at the hotel Since our train did not leave untll mernlng, we had the whole evening to spend in Chlcago We were both hungry se we decided to cat dlnner early. On golng to a near by restaurant, I happened to look up, and saw someone washlng windows on the twentieth floor. I thought I recognized him, and Dorothy lnformod me it was Jesse Eades, While eating, we were entertained by Marion Tay lor with her singing and dancing routine, After supper, we went to the nTune a Time Sym phenyu under the direction of Duane Mock. Glanclng down, I noticed that General David N Jeffrey was chosen to head the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, since General M B Ridgway resigned I was highly pleased to read this I also noticed that the Bell Telephone Company was purchased by Mr and Mrs. Willis Gramm fthe former Annie witzigl It went on to say that Annie's quite a manager Having only a few days of our vacation left, we took a plane to Chicago we arrived in the morning, and in the afternoon we went to see the stage show, Nsouth Pac ificn we were very happy to see Judy Kuerth playing the lead After the play, whom should we see but Shirley Houck! The lightweights compiled five wins and five defeats for their record. Their outstanding win of the year came at Downs in the County Tourney, when they downed Heyworth 31-30 in an overtime. They next met Danvers, but were beaten in this game 30 27 to eliminate them The heavyweight team, because of lack of height, ended the season with a l 9 record Their lone victory came over the Arrowsmith team by a score of 39 28 They also played in the County, but were beaten by Bellflower in the opener 20 17 The fifth and sixth graders finished with a 7 S mark Although not playing in any tournaments, they played every time the heavyweights did This team is formed, primarily, to teach them fundamentals for the coming years The team wasn't limited to any number, and all who came out usually saw action in the games played HEAVYWEIGHT TEAM LIGHTWEICHT TEAM Gridley Gridley Gridley Gridley Gridley Gridley Lexington Fairbury Arrowsmith Flanagan Flanagan Bellflower Gridley Gridley Gridley Gridley Gridley Gridley 31 Danvers Lexington Saybrook Chenoa Arrowsmith Heyworth 'zooooooco - '26 '27 susnouoq '17aoonooos '38 ' '1Sv0-'00 Gridiey-13 ..........
