The band was organized during the school year of 1937-38 under the direc- tion of Mr. John O'Toole. The first public appearance was made before the Parent Teacher's Association in March, 1938. Concerts were given weekly during the next two summers under the sponsorship of the Lions' Club and the business men. After the death of Mr. O'Toole, the band was taken over by Clarence Mas- sey who was succeeded by Mr. Earl Meeker in November,l939. Mr. Meeker and his work have been well-known in this community for a num- ber of years and we feel that we are very fortunate in having him as our direc- tor. Under his leadership the band has made definite progress. Public interest has been aroused, new uniforms have been promised by the American Legion and more instruments by the school board. We expect in another year to compare favorably with the bands of neighboring schools. Thirteen of our members are grade school people. Since there is no grade school band, we are grateful for this nucleus for our future high school bands. The present officers are: President, Leonard Rich, Vice-President, Vio- letta Wilfongg and Secretary-Treasurer, Evelyn Cornwell. Those absent when this picture was made are: L. Phillis, Louis Phillis, Helbling, M. K. Pfister, E. Rinkenberger, and J. Diggle. -3Q..
