Membership is limited to those enrolled or who have been enrolled in Home Ec. The Club seeks to develop personality, increase cooperation and friendship, provide for advantageous use of leisure time and form a link between home and school. Our motto, NBe the best of whatever you are,W is very signif icant because it expresses the real idea of the club. Our colors are blue and silver and our flower is the rose. Edith Feit was the first president. An initiation ceremony was held in November for the sixteen girls who be- came new members, increasing the total membership to thirty-eight, for which a tea was held in their honor. Many activities were sponsored by the Club. Four girls, Margaret Ann Taylor, Kathryn Stortz, Kathryn Eigsti and Hazel Kent, were chosen and sent by the club to the State Convention at Chicago. Near Christmas time the club re- modeled toys and later sent them to the Salem Orphanage. Hot lunches were served frequently at school by the club. Mrs. Roy Stevig gave an interesting and educational gg demonstration on the care of' the skin. In April a Foreign Cookery dinner was R1 ,, ix T held. Funk, Kaufman, Rinkenberger, Gerig Hoobler and F. Wilfong. At the beginning of the year the Girls Athletic Association had a party to which they invited all the girls. The purpose of the club was explained to them and fourteen freshmen girls were made pledges of the club. After the pledges have made seventy-five points they are initiated at a special service. They then have to make twenty points a month. The club seeks to promote ath- letics and encourage companionship among the girls. The club was originated in 1936-37 under the very capable leadership of Miss Jessie Frisby. A rural field day is annually sponsored by the G.A.A. Each summer the girls rent a cabin and spend a week at Lake Bloomington. All girls earning five hundred points receive a letter. Seventeen girls received letters this year. Seven hundred fifty points entitles a girl to a medal, one thousand points entitles her to an emblem. Each Senior boy who has received three athletic letters is awarded a medal by the G.A.A. Hoobler, V Reeves and G Kahle The Future Farmers of America is a national organization of farm boys en rolled in vocational agriculture In 1937 the Gridley chapter of Future Farmers of America was organized by Mr Paul McKey, the present sponsor During the past year our F F A members participated in a variety of in teresting and enjoyable activities, namely, Judging contest, basket ball tourna m nts, F. F. A. jamborees, and the vocational agriculture fair At the voca tional fair held at LeRo fifteen of our boys exhibited their progects and brought home a total of l25 in prize money Our Judging teams have ranked ac creditably in the districts and state contests We have also attended the International Livestock Show the past two years From forty one progects we made a net profit of 32,540 last year One of our boys, Lawrence Gilmore, first prize with his grand champion barrow at the County Fair this year third at the State Fair officers of the club this year are Bob Reeves--President Max Kirkton--Vice President Arthur Gramm--Sec. and Treas Keith Hoobler--Reporter Mr. McKey--Advisor Motto is: NLearning to do, Doing to learn, Earning to live, Living to serve.W CO1OI'S HTS blue and
