The Gridley regulars ended their regular basketball season by defeating the Eureka team by a score of 29 to 28. The reserves were out- classed and lost 28-27. We opened the local basketball season at Hayworth by dividing a double bill. The varsity lost a bitterly fought battle 3l-25, and the reserves handed a sound thrashing to Heyworth reserves by a 25-7 score. The Gridley regulars lost a thrilling basketball game to the Chenga regu- lars, the final spore being 25 to 22. The reserves defeated the Chenoa seconds in the curtain-raiser by a score of 27 to ll. December 8. Displaying a brand of basketball that was a revelation to their most ardent supporters, the Gridley basketball team won a thrill-packed battle from the Trinity high school basketeers in Bloomington. The final score was 33-31. The Gridley reserves lost the curtain-raiser to the Trinity reserves 30-19. December 12. Gridley won a hard-fought basketball game from Lexington by a score of 18-11. The game was largely a defensive one. The Gridley reserves went on a scoring rampage in the last quarter of their game to ring up a 22-ll victory. December 19. The varsity lost a hard-fought game from Strawn 30-23. The Gridley reserves also lost in a thriller 23-21. January 9. The Gridley high school basketball squad lost two games to E1 Paso on Tuesday night. The regulars were defeated 30-27, while the reserves found themselves on the short end of a 21-19 score. January 12. The Gridley varsity had easy going most of the way with Cornell After piling up a big score the first quarter they just ooasted into a win 31-25. The reserves won in an overtime battle 26-25. January 19. The Gridley basketball teams lost a doubleheader to the Chatsworth teams on Friday night. The regulars lost a thrilling overtime battle by a 21-19 score while the reserves took a convincing thumping by a 29-15 count. February 13. Gramm, Irwin, Hany, V. Funk. Front Row: R. Kirkton, McCain, Bill Reeves, E. Meiss, H. Roth, P. Kearney, L. Rinkenberger, R. Meiss, and R. Schramm. Our first track meet this year was with Forrest. We defeated them by a score of 895-385. Ed Meiss was high point man with a total of eleven points. The track team placed lOth in the Pontiac Relays. The competition was very strong. Harold Roth placed first in the shot put. Our next meet was with El Paso. We triumphed with a score of 87 to L8. The scoring was fairly even-balanced between the tracksters. In our own Gridley Relays we won the varsity trophy. Harold Roth was high point man for Gridley. Cropsey and Eureka were the next victims during our track season: Gridley was again the victor, Eureka second, and Cropsey, third. The boys are now looking forward to the County Track meet when they, as defending champions, will attempt to win another first.
