FOOTBALL Aw...-f- 'WM Standing: L. Gilmore, L. Rinkenberger, Rowley, H. Roth, Henrichs, R. Kirkton, R. Schramm. Sitting: Klopfenstein, M. Kirkton, Travis, K. Hoobler, P. Kearney, E. Meiss, R. Meiss. The l939 football schedule opened in an impressive style with a 58 to O victoryxover Cullom. The Cullom team was at a great disadvantage in size and lack of experience. Our next foe was the Lexington Minute Men, who resumed playing football as a major sport, adopting the abbreviated eight man team. We came home the vic- tors by a score of 33 to O. However the score doesn't tell the closeness of the game. Much credit is due to Coach Murray and his players in their first year of football. We ran our victory string to three as we defeated El Paso by the score of lb to 0 under the flood lights, at El Paso. El Paso was much stronger than expected and pushed us to the utmost. We were, however, exceedingly jubilant over the victory. This brought the first victory over El Paso in football for some twenty years. After such a fine start our team showed a reversal of form and lost the next four games on our schedule. We were defeated by Chillicothe 13 to O, by Saunemin 7 to O, by Washington 25 to O, and by the powerful Chenoa team 33 to O. Both Washington and Chenoa were considered two of the better teams of the state this year. Letterman are: C. Rowley, R. Travis, J. Klopfenstein, R. Meiss, E. Meiss, G. Henrichs, H. Roth, P. Kearney, R. Kirkton, Rex Schramm, L. Rinkenberger, L. Gilmore.
