COMMANDING OFFICER 5- USS GRIDLEY CCG-213 'fr FPO SAN FRANCISCO 96666 N -X Greetings to GRIDLEY sailors, families and friends. This book is dedicated to the Officers and men of the World's Greatest Cruiser . A ship is merely a conglomerate of steel and aluminum which is hydrodynamically designed to keep her safely afloat. It is the men who serve in her who impart that special personality and acquire for her a reputation. The men you see on these pages, depicted either going about their daily chores or representing our country on liberty as ambassadores of good will, are the finest our Navy has to offer. GRIDLEY has earned the reputation as the World's Greatest Cruiser because of their collective efforts. No Commanding Officer could desire or ask for more than what these professional sailors have so freely given. The essence of W1-ESTPAC 84-85 has been captured and presented on these pages so that our families and friends may share a little of our past adventures. For those of us who took part in this Cruise, this book will serve as a constant reminder in years ahead, of the camaraderie and friendships we made which will long endure. Friend and shipmate are synonomous terms for the seagoing sailor. Even though our future paths may diverge, we will always remember our shipmates who shared the joys and hardships of this Cruise. It is hoped that we shall all meet again soon, but until we do, God Bless you all. 92,14 .i 'ngxI!m H 'MVQU' WALSWORTH PUBLISH! ' O CTCJMPANY .
