l . . ' Blcentemul Celebration USS GRIDLEY ICG Zi, rro un rmmcnsco noon I ou f DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY 9' ah ' 11'liiiIlb'l . 'lynn J 'U' 5 July 1976 Almighty and everlasting God, in a simple and sincere way, we give thanks for our Country. It is unique that we should be alive to experience and celebrate her 200th birthday. O God, in your majesty and power, You permit nations to rise to great- ness and fall in disgrace. We openly acknowledge that we believe the United States of America to be the greatest country in the world. Its constitutional principles of Liberty and Justice for all are unparalled by any other Nation. The potential for the wellbeing of all its people is beyond measure. Yet, there are flaws in the fabric of greatness which covers us. Some, in government, institutions, industry, and society-at-large have been corrupted by greed, power, and prejudice, depriving many of justice and equality: exploiting the poor and underprivileged. These are weaknesses within, which is a far greater enemy than one from without. On this special day, at the dawn of her 3rd century, we face the test of whether this Nation can long endure, if we fail to mend the flaws. We, therefore, pray that You will forgive the sins of the Nation. Forgive us our sins, for we are the Nation. Wash us clean of the things which corrupt and do injustice to others. Enable us to care for one another, ns well as be cared forg to respect and be respectedg to love and be loved, in the highest meaning of these words. By so doing, we believe Amcrlcn can and will endure, and become, indeed, America the Beautiful, hccnuse we have done something to make her beautiful. Bless the crew on the CRIDLEY in our mission of representing the United States. Be with our families and loved ones at home. Bless the President and all those in governmental authority over us. Bless our Captain, and aid him in the heavy responsibility of co manding this ship. :in81lYv be the Cod of our history, of our heritage,-and of our future ope. Amen GARY v. LYONS LTJG. CHC.
