Well, the teachers at this time got a worse shock. For in that year on a bright September morn 40 youngsters entered grade school for the first time, Miss Richards. Miss Erwin, and later Miss Allison had the privilege of instructing these future Einsteins, This proved to be a most enlightening year and the whole school was astounded when the announcement was made that Johnny Dobson, Don Clucas, Estell Brown, Gordon Kirk, Donald Lyman. Jack Roberts, and Larry Slotta had won the We Brush Our Teeth Contest, The first atomic study began in 1541, Likewise, the learning of these 40 pupils began under the direction of Miss Allison and Miss Fisk, The world was in a turmoil, but not these shining lights, They were happy and satisfied if they got to kiss their teachers good-night. In 1943 the world's interest was centered on Oak Ridge and in the A-bomb, Not so, in the third grade of Greybull. For in this year their interest and school-life centered around recess, It seems that the latest game was Girls Chase the Boys, Miss Heare was the third grade teacher and the main objective was learning to write. The half-way rnark in grade school life was reached this year, Mrs, Goss and Mrs. Minnis were the fourth grade teachers. In this year new progress was made in the field of music under the direction of Miss Chauncey, The latest hit tune of the Class of '52 at this point was A Froggie Would A-Wooing Go, ln 1945 the world was busy mastering the atom, and the first A-bomb was dropped, To the fifth graders, with Miss Scott as a teacher, the obstacle at hand to master was the multiplication table. As the year progressed the class took on an extra task--that of knitting afghan squares for the Red Cross, The year 1946 brought greater advancement. For this class, under the teaching of Mrs, Shoemaker, was admitted into junior high. This change was brought on by the rapidly increasing enrollment which was not 50 pupils, The years 1947 and 1948 meant new highlights and accomplishments. To the world it meant the A-bomb and the H-bomb, To the class of '52 it meant really' belonging to junior high, At last the highest enrollment of 57 was reached. The teachers during the seventh grade were Mrs. Amundsen, Mr, Smith, Miss Akers, Mr. Drengsen, Mr, Marlow, and Miss Berry, Mrs, Gibbs, Mrs. Amundsen, Mrs, Cooper, v 'hafgm r mn. 41 It-54.53.122 1 675155 Mkfaly Mr. Drengson, and Mr, Marlow instructed eighth grade. During these wonderful years of junior high two operettas were given-- The Belle of Bagdad and A Dumb Waiter, ' The world was little interested in the date, September 7, 1948 but the class of '52 remembers. For on this eventful day freshman initiation was held, Others remember too, for the sweet aroma of the garlic and the onions lingered in old G, H.S. for quite some time, At this time there were '7'7 freshmen, As the year progressed many school events were held. The freshmen sponsored the first faculty-varsity basketball game, A dance and a skating party were also sponsored by this class during the year, In 1949 there were '73 members of the sophomore class, Homecoming this year was very successful for this class as it won first prize with its float Duz Does Every- thing, The annual vice-versa dance was held later in the year. The junior class of 1950-51 had 69 members. One of the highlights of the year was the junior play entitled The Baby-Sitter. The cast was as follows: Mrs. Gordon, Billie M, Allison, Mr, Gordon, Melvin Andersong Dot, Joanne Asp, Midge, Marilyn Senstad: Junior, Don Clucasg Carrie, Barbara Gillettg Eunice, Laverna Munselle, Carl, Bobby Whitlockg Bob, Estell Browng Helen, Marlys Harvey, Mr, Ballard, Jack Roberts, Mrs. Ballard, Marjorie Scott, Lefty, Don Sabbe, and Jane, Sylvia Lilja. The Junior Prom completed last year, It was Cinderella's Ball and everyone seemed to have a good time, Joyce Holm was crowned the 1951 Prom Queen, So ended a very happy, happy school year. After eleven years of readin', 'ritin', and 'rithmetic, it is time to tell about the last and perhaps the most important year--the senior year, Sixty-five students now have brighter faces as they look toward graduation, Two juniors will graduate with us, They are Lois Jennings and Florence Berkland. Our Homecoming float this year was entitled Snow 'Em Under. Marjorie Scott was crowned Homecoming Queen, The ordering of cards, pictures, announcements, and annuals has kept everyone busy but it is well worth it, The memory-books have been passed around and as the years go by, these memories will reappear from time to time, There will be good memories and bad ones, but it's undoubtedly true that all the memories of the fun in G, H,S, will be under the title of Good Memories and will be the best remembered. Grad- uation, like an explosion, will find the class of '52 blown to all parts of the country, but wherever they go, they will always carry with them the memories of Greybull High School.
