' 37- . N Y , V fs. 1 2 0 X X X X 0 f I Many long years ago, in 1939, to be exact, forty-one little boys and girls entered the first grade room in Greybull Grade School. Among the boys and girls were Donald Bristow, who entered the school with his little Raggedy Andy doll, and Joyce Holm, who brought her Raggedy Ann doll. The teachers, Miss Erwin, and Miss Richards, and the principal, Mr. Andes, thought these two children would have other things to do than to play with dolls, so Raggedy Ann and Andy were ordered to remain in the back of the room. The next year the class entered the second grade with Miss West as their teacher. Miss B'rown and Miss Heare were the two teachers who welcomed the class in the third grade. They did not approve of Raggedy Ann and Andy at first as there had been previous reports of bad conduct and citizenship from these two, but all went well. In the fourth grade the teacher was Miss Brown. The enrollment had increased to 42. The class took part in a Christmas program directed by Mr. Davis. The program was a success except for the fact that most of the band members were unable to play because Raggedy Ann and Andy swiped all the mouthpieces to the comets, trombones, and baritones. The teacher in the fifth grade was Miss Scott. There were 41 pupils in the class. The class had a contest in arithmetic and many of the pupils wrote to children in other states. The class took part in a Christmas program with Miss Chauncey as director. This year Raggedy Ann and Andy were kept under close watch. The next year, in the sixth grade, the teacher was Mrs. Shoemaker, and the en- rollment was forty-four. They received merits and prizes in a grade and citizenship contest. Many of the students tried for penmanship certificates but failed because Raggedy Ann and Andy kept filling the pens with water. The students gave a program on Wyoming Day and took part in the Christmas program. The class had more than enough teachers during the seventh grade year. They were: Mrs. Goss, Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Gcoigis, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Milbum, Mrs. Runden, Mrs. Holm, and Mr. Drengson. Enrollment this year was 56. The class took part in the operetta, Rumplestilskin under the direction of Mr. Drengson, The students felt really grown up when they attended the junior high parties for the first time, The enrollment in the eighth grade reached the all-time high of 63. The teachers were Mrs. Amundson, Miss Akers, Miss Berry, Mr. Smith, Mr. Drengson, and Mr. Marlowe, who was also principal. f . if 1 ,. ' ' ,fi a , 1 . A ,4 W . 0. Q-.1 v f 2 4, 5 ,Q ,p. They presented an operetta, The Belle of Bagdad, under the direction of Mr. Drengson. The basketball team went to the toumament in Worland and won second place. The Glee Club and the band played at a concert given at the High School. The class was very sorry to fhink that they had to leave grade school, especially Raggedy Ann and Andy, who thought they had to remain, but Mr. Marlowe was so angry at them for buming all the report cards that he kicked them right out of grade school into that great institute called high school. On the memorable day of September 2, 1947, GHS was greatly improved and en- riched by the enrollment of 62 green little freshmen. No time was lost in getting adjusted to high school and soon they were right in there with the best of them. The leaders were: Dick Henderson, president, Nancy Fricke, vice-president, Harry Moberly, treasurer, Don Bristow, secretaryg and David Flitner, reporter. Miss Georgia Hopkins was their class sponsor. September 5 was a great day for both seniors and freshmen. Freshman Initiation I The freshmen won the March of Dimes contest and as a result were served candy bars by Mr. Quigg. Of course they had a little help from Mr. Serbin and Raggedy Ann and Andy. The freshmen sponsored the home coming dance and found that some of the boys were fast on their way to becoming expert ballet dancers. On September 7, 1948, the doors of the high school again were opened and the teachers soon heard the patter of little feet as they thundered down the hall. The sec- ond year of high school had begun. The class officers for the year were: Beverly Clifton, presidentg Harry Moberly, vice-presidentg Don Bristow, secretaryg Richard Henderson, treasurer, and Donna Bruce, reporter. Mrs. Quigg sponsored the class. At the first of that year, the sophomores sponsored a vice-versa dance. September 6, 1949 brought the class into GHS as upperclassmen. By this time, the numbers had dwindled down to 47. The class officers were: Clinton.Core, presidentg Dwain Hankins, vice-president, Ralph Bradford, treasurer: Don Bristow, secretary, and Dick Henderson, reporter. Dee Anderson was chosen sponsor. The Junior Class play, The Beauty and the Beef, was presented on November 18. ln the play, the character, Ginnyg was supposed to put the epicac in the cocoa, but really Raggedy Andy did as he was given charge of the properties during the play. Much talent was shown in the pro- duction. My Blue Heaven, was the theme of the prom given by the juniors on May 5. lt,too, was a great success. September 5, 1950 brought 50 all-mighty seniors into the school for their last year. Our class officers were: Don Bristow, presidentg Richard Whaley, vice-president, Harrell Croley, secretary, Richard Miller, treasurer, Glada Stratton, reporter, and Raggedy Andy, chief flunky. Mr. Anderson was again chosen class sponsor. On September 22, the class initiated the freshmen. Many teachers, students, and alumni attended the Senior Ball. Among them were Raggedy Ann and Andy who tried to spike the punch, but Mr. Quigg caught them and kicked them out of the dance, telling them either they behaved or they couldn't attend any more school activities. Other activities during the year were the annual, senior sneak day, the school paper, the senior play, baccalaureate, and last, but not 1east,commencement.
