Ndmakelotanoise Reports The Tragedy of 1950 It all started years and years ago when the site of Greybull was just a lot of sage- brush and Indians. The most important specimen left in later years in this river bot- tom was an old disreputable grey bull. So guess, my absorbed readers, where Grey- bull got its label! In the year '37 or thereabouts six naughty little nasties, Pat, Mick, Dale S., Har- old, Alma, and Roberta, dealt Mrs. Foe a miserable year and a half in kindergarten as she attempted to pound a few fundamentals into their dense little heads. Without any results she turned them over to Mr. Andes, principal of the grade school, to do with them what he wanted. The first day of school was agony for the first grade teachers who received the '38 beginners. The first day the class was torn apart and putasunder by dividing them into two divisions, one half under Mrs. Palmer, and the other half gave Miss Jacobson a rip-roaring time. Before lonf the present class of '50 had been trained to be quiet conservative children. fBe1ieve it or notl. Therefore the lower grades whizzed by very uneventfully except for a few plays, programs and other great dramatic contri- butions. As the class advanced, naturally they took in many new members to add to their already large enrollment. As the seventh grade flashed by, Freda G., Nada Olsen, Larry B., and Vance C. contributed to the advancing class. People of Greybull were greatly amazed at the brilliant operetta, Rumpelstiltskin, put on by the Junior High in '46, Yes, that's right, the class of '50 graduated from the eighth grade with flying Colors. Members of the class that were given honor awards were Patty Nau,Alma M., Dawn V. W., Harold M.. Larry B. and Delmar Davis. Feeling grownup and sophisticated, the little green freshmen approached high school but much to their surprise the high and mighty seniors took the air right out of their sails and really initiated them properly. That first week of High School will be one to remember. Fun, laughs, and excitementprevailed over the school that first Friday, but much to the class's enjoyment and pleasure the senior class honored them with a dance. Later in the year the class, under the direction of their sponsor Mr. Rice, had a very stupendous hayride. Things seemed to have been going naturally because allwere hap- py to begin three months vacation at the end of the first year. fi. !L'31'2'HA!.EU'I?Jfil!l.e f'!. 3i4s: :I ,bn 1i'1!',YI56t3'E'M5L ' 'WZNKXE'- ' 66444 7641 When school started in the fall of '47 there were many happy smiling sophomore faces. The class elected Mr. Cooper for their sponsor and proceeded to sponsor the second annual vice-Versa dance which proved a great success. No, there was hardly a soul in school who didn't have a jolly time at this occasion. Yes, that's right, another vacation! Back to school again, the class started right in working toward their goals. Many concessions were carried on by the class that year. Hard working, tireless, juniors sold pop, candy and programs at games and dances. Who is she ? What is it? Yes, my friends, it's the Atomic Bloride, one of the best plays to hit G. H. S. The play was acclaimed by all as being a huge success. King Neptune's Frolic was the theme of the Junior-Senior Prom sponsored by the class of '50 under the direction of their spon- sor, Mr. Via. For the first time in years, the class had a very luscious banquetin the Presbyterian church basement. Tables were decorated with mermaids, sea horses, sea shells and allsorts of ocean creatures adorned the walls. The dance was decorated very colorfully and beautifully. The class was very proud and happy at the Prom they had achieved. Every One WBS very relieved when vacation time came. The Senior Class entered school September 5, 1949 and voted to do away with Fresh- man Initiation this year because the school board prohibited hazingg however to start off the social year they sponsored the Vice-Versa dance, October 17. December 17 the Senior Ball was held and proclaimed a great success. The decora- tions consisted of gold stars hanging from the ceiling with a large decorated Christmas Tree at the west end of the Gymnasium. In each corner were figures of Christmas Carolers with lamp posts. The Grand March was held at 10:00 andwas very colorful. The 1950 yearbook was started in January and the whole class worked very hard to make it the best annual ever put out in G. H. S. March 31 was the date set for the Senior Play and every one praised the cast for their fine work in it. Sneak Day was the latter part of the year, and finally the Mighty Seniors could look forward to the day in the near future when they would don their caps and gowns, turn their class rings around and become Alumnae. The loss by graduation of this class from G. H. S. is felt by the student body to be the real tragedy of 1950. . 1 I J , Hlilitiwimi Q .- 1'1,,,f L , 1.,xQ1,-1. We, the esteemed class of 1950, considering ourselves to be the indisputable holders of all virtues worth having fwhich isn't saying much, do hereby take this space to rid ourselves of same in our one and only, last and final will and testa- ment. Not having anything of value to leave the school, since we are taking it all with us, we make the following bequests to the individual classes. First, we request the juniors be given all our just debts as we have no money left to pay them. We further leave all gum deposits under desks, chairs, etc, to the sophomores with directions to Mr. Cooper to see they salvage same. To the frosh we leave all the traditional senior privileges, as they already have assumed them. Billy Allen wills his athletic ability and superb physique to Dwain Hankins. Some- one missed willing it to Bill lastyear, and we don't wantyou to feel left out, Frosty, Ida Jean Sterret wills her wedding ring to Barbara Starks so she will be able to stay out of those triangle affairs. Dwain Cheatham wills his trusty steed to his brother Francis so he will quit riding his motorcycle and live to a ripe old age. John Pearsonwills his Gene Autry Fan Club card to General Croley. Bet- ter get a horse, Harrell. Shirley Madsen wills her animated jog and ballet to Beryl Bartlett. Helen Harvey wills her boisterous, obnoxious ways, and hectic night life to Lois Funk. Lynn Schmer wills his position as Mr. Cooper 's 'lefthand' man to Leroy Voorhees. We feel the poor kid needs some inside connections. John Clucas wills his father's position on the schoolboard to his brotherD0n, As long as you're here take advantage of it, Don. Betty Weston wills her l490 Request Club Membership Card, red hair, and signature Red, Red, and Red to Joanne McElhinney.
