These were Bobby Jean Allen, Edith Corfield, Jim Cropsey, Keith Foulk, Kenneth Greene, Junior Phillips, Lucille Harvey, Guy Henderson, Lois Peavler, Warren Stadtfeld, Connie Tweddle, and Richard Baker. In the hub were our teachers, Miss Palmer and Miss Jacobson, and our superintendent, Mr. Anderson. We formed a rhythm band. ln May we presented a Maypole Dance. We then rolled down the dusty trail to thetsecond grade and Miss Bealle took Miss Jacobson's place in the hub. We presented another May Day Program, in which Bobby Jean Allen was Queen of Spring. The dusty trail next led us to the third grade where Miss Holmberg was our teacher, and Adam Link became the thirteenth spoke in the wheel. It was here that grades three through eight participated in a declamatory contest, and off all the contestants, Lucille Harvey won first prize. Mr. Andes became our superintendent. The fall of '40 saw us rolling into Mis s Brown's 4th grade. Many pupils entered the declamatory contest that year. We worked for our penmanship certificates and a few of the pupils entered the Spelling Contest. n Miss Scott saw us coming but it was too late to escape. She was doomed as our 5th grade teacher. We lent our dramatic ability to a Christmas play and also participated in a gym exhibition. As we approached the 6th grade our wheel gained more confidence but we lost it when we discovered we weren't to be counted as Junior High. Our teachers were Mrs. Shoemaker, Mr. Davis, Mr. Kemnitz, and Mr. Michaels, principal. We gave plays-- Father Time featuring Keith Foulkg Columbus , Abraham Lincoln , starring Jim Cropsey with Connie Tweddle as his wife, and ' Health Fairy. And then--Junior High was honored by the appearance of the gold diggers and dice-slingers who were kept in line by Miss Berg, Miss Wegner, Miss Chauncey, Mr. Kemnitz, and Mr. Quigg, our superinten- dent. We helped give an operetta King Koko. We participated in many Junior High parties, and published our first Sentinel. We ploughed through the mud and mire ofthe eighth grade unscattered with the aid of Miss Kreiger, Mrs. Gross, Mr. Michaels, Mr. Kemnitz Mr. Drengson, and Mr. Quigg. We were joined by Bill Wilkinson, Dolores Stengl, and Arden Christiansen. Under the direction of Mr. Drengson, we produced Liberty Lane. After an eventful year they gave our wheel a shove on toward high school. We we-re met by the haughty Seniors who broke the rim of our resis- tance. We were joined by Joyce Collingwood, Mer le Moberly, Don Colling- wood, Maxine Boyt, Verna Highland, Bill Davies, Lauramae Roehrkasse, Leon Sanders, and Wayne Yorgason. We started the annual vice-versa dance and entered many other activities. 1 E r We weaved into our Sophomore year, and Arlene Schildhauer, Mickey Saldana, and Norma Wilbur joined us. We again presented our annual vice-versa dance. The end of the trail became visible as we discovered There was gold in themthar hills as we received our Junior class rings. We presented the hilarious, killing, roll-'em-in-the -aisle comedy ' 'The Kissing Link. Our beautiful prom, with the theme Old Fashioned Garden, was a big success. We ended the year with a class picnic in the Big Horns. The end of the trail became evident as we entered our Senior year. The football team was composed of many Senior boys. The paintbrush staff was chosen. Following this, work began on the Senior Ball, which was presented November 24th. The theme of the dance was, The Forty Niners, and was carried out in the decorations and program. The gym was lighted with a large wagon wheel, suspended in the center, covered with green and blue lights. Two huge diamonds were formed on either' side of the celling with Chinese laternsg and the sidewalls were covered with '49ers cartoons drawn by Warren Stadtfeld. The grand march was led by Donald Collingwood, president of the Senior class, and his date. The grand march in which the juniors, seniors and their dates took part, ended with a huge wagon wheelformed in the center of the floor. Specialty act before intermission was a square dance, performed by three sets from the Senior class, and called by Keith Foulk. The days began to whiz. by as we were greeted by semester exams shortly after Christmas vacation. Work thenbegan on the annual. April 1 we presented our Senior play, The Great Big Doorstep. The Junior- Senior prom and banquet were given, and our Senior sneak day was quietly planned. And now--we are graduating. Commencement night will see our wagon wheel, fall apart and the spokes parting in all directions. The '49ers have written their history. , M wr ff : f 1' 4' rf' 3 . 1, PW 'gig 1 ,F 4 4 a 2 F- V :N 1 :E .3 ,px- , 'Vi m'T'xN1'i' . 3 fig-3451: 1 V5i'?Ei'5- ,ll 3 L ft . , ., .A - s, M -I 1 : 1 , ,lim -, w L' wg Y . Hope Mr. Ball appreciates this. Dolores Stengl wills her name Kactus Kate to Don Bristow. We don't know if he needs it, tho, as he is already so sharp, but he gets it anyhow. Keith Foulk wills his two dozen bottles of hair oil, his wide awake appearance and his jolly ways to Marvin Heath. Take advantage of these, Marvin. Adam Link wills his boistrous laughter and his ability to see humor in unusual places to anyone who is brave enough to use it in any of Mrs. Quigg's classes. J Don Collingwood wills his flamboyant ways to Vance Christiansen. That is, if Vance knows what it means, because we sure don't. Guy Henderson wills his intelligence tohis brother Dale. Maybe we should say, he wills what ever he achieved in High School to Dale. Maxine Boyt wills Joe to Del -- her sister, you know--just to keep him in the family. Jim Cropsey wills the position of having an influencial father on the school board to any poor soul who needs it. Lauramae Roehrkasse wills her smile and blond locks to Mable May- land so that in a few years she may give Betty Hutton the competition that Lauramae has been giving her. Wayne Yorgason wills half of his wits Qhalf-wit, you know, to Bill Allen so that with their combined resources Bill may be a genius. Red Greene wills his position as Secretary of the Senior class to John Pearson and we hope John works at it as diligently as Red did. If he does, he will never be over worked. Jr. Phillips wills his masculine physique to Billy Rae Hudspeth. Think you can find a place for it. William? Pearl Deveraux and Red Greene will their new hiding place to any one who is smart enough to find it. - Since Bill Wilkinson and Joyce Collingwood will their loving cup to Harry and Donna, they expect them to put it to good use. Merle Moberly wills his attitude toward the feminine sex to Dean Grausse--need we say more ? Don Porter wills to his brother Gerald, his shyness, his quietness, and his ability to mind his own business. E E a Q CLASS WILL Buddy .Tones wills his book on one arm driving to Ralph Bradford, to use, of course, if and when he gets his jalopy in running class. Be sure to read all 25 pages of it, Ralph. Arden Christiansen wills his quietness to Richard Miller. Goodness knows he needs it. Arden is hoping to be a riproaring character when he gets out of school. Lucille Harvey wills her Worland boy friends to Mickey Nau. Mickey told us she certainly wanted them. Bill Davies wills his fine attitude in class and his unfailing, Ho, Ho, attention to Gary Miller. Mickey Saldana wills her pretty hair and eyes to Esther .Tune Leavitt. Warren Stadtfe ld wills his incoherent, intellectual insight and indubit- able genius, keen understanding, artistic appreciative knowledge of the workings of the feminine brain and methods of combating said distur- bances to shy, demure Larry Sheppard. David Pearson wills his brother John to Roberta McGhee. David would will him to Miss Fletcher but she'1l get him anyway. Leon Sanders wills his melodious voice to Ted Peterson so that now when Ted sings to his girl firends they won't have to cover their ears. Arlene Schildhauer wills her ability to get her Chemistry assignments in on time to any one who needs it. Lois Peavler wills all of her out of town beaus to anyone who wants them because she won't need them next year. Verna Highland wills her quiet modest and lady-like manners to Ioan Roberts.
