Crowds dance tothe beat of The bands, The Sussex perform at one of Gresham! soc-hops, Soc-Hops Attract Students This year Gresham had more soc- hops than ever before. Crowds were high as students danced to the beats ot local groups. School clubs and organizations provided decorations while the student council paid tor the cost ot the band. This plan was initiated for the first time this year, in hope of securing better bands and bigger crowds. This plan proved to be a huge success both financially and with the students.

.loji ateo AFS Student Dear GUHS Student Body, Walk together, talk together, all ye people of the earth. Then and only then shall ye have peace. This is the motto of the American Field Service Program whose main purpose is to help open the door to understanding and friendship between coun- tries. I'm honored to be a part of this program by spending a whole year here at Gresham High. My home in the Philippines is completely sur- rounded by wide, blue ocean, and we would often talk about the world beyond the vast waters. My friends and I could talk for hours and speculate on how different it must be, as we watched the great sun come down to end another day. For many years, I have been watching that same blue ocean and wishing hard for the time I can fly over it and see the other world I've heard so much about. I guess I wished hard enough because I was able to reach America and find what at first seemed a different world. But as I lived with yau, as we walked to- gether, I discovered that our similarities in values and ideals far exceed our physical and cultural differences. As I spent this lovely year with all the Gresham- ites, as we shared each others customs and cultures, I learned that your world is not really as different as I thought. It was not as difficult, either, to make friends, and I was able to understand more about your country by knowing you. It has been such a great year with you and, as l prepare to leave, let me say Paalam!
