Under the outstanding leadership of Student Body President Roger Menke and the counsel of Mr. Charles Saverude, the Student Council has acted as a student voice in school affairs. This year the council chose candidates for Argus editor and selected rally squad members, a duty formerly done by faculty members. A new system of selecting candidates for student body offices was introduced whereby each student nominates his choice for the five student body officers for the coming school year, and the Student Council selects two candidates from those nominated. The first assembly of the l95O-'Sl school year brought back the all-student body salute to the flag at the begin- ning of assemblies. The cooperation of each council member resulted in a successful year which will not easily be forgotten.

NICK WELSH President DIANE VI NTON Secretary CLASS OF l95I DOUG IRVING Vice-President SENIOR CLASS HISTORY As the seniors leave Gresham High School, memories of outstanding events of four short years crowd their minds. Graduation from high school seemed distant in September of l947 when the class, the largest then ever to enroll in Gresham High School, began four years of high school. Mrs. Nancy Martin was advisor for the class, and with her guidance President Doug Irving, Secretary Janet Ambrose, and Vice-President Duane Wolfe led the freshmen through an eventful year. The first memorable activity of the Class of l95l was the freshman party, The Carnival, which was the first social gathering of the class which is now leaving. Allen Tarpenning was president of the class the next year, and Mrs. Lucille Poucher became advisor of the class. Pat Penney was secretary and Bob Reiley was vice-president. Doug Irving and Janet Ambrose were crowned King and Queen of Ice at the sophomore party, Ice and Snow. Three one-act plays were presented as one of the many activities of the class when it descended the stairs to become the junior class, The carefully budgeted Junior-Senior prom, Dreamer's Holiday, was also an outstanding event of that year. The class was well organized with Roger Menke as president, Lois Cramer as secretary, and Nick Welsh as vice-president. Beginning the fourth year at Gresham High School, the class became concerned about graduation activities and found thellast year in high school to be a very busy year. Nick Welsh was president of the class. Serv- ing with him were Diane Vinton, secretary, and Doug Irving, vice-president. You Can't Take It With You was presented as the class play, directed by Miss Winifred Casterline. The Class of l95l leaves the building it entered four years ago, with lingering memories of the events which have made high school an unforgetable part of life.
