They wound up the season with a 13-11 won-lost record. They also had 7 'seniors on the first ten, which will, of course, probably be somewhat of a problem for next year. The Gorillas started out the season by playing Colome and they came out on top 73 to 45. The next game was with Murdo CThe No. 1 rated team in the stateh. Gregory this time came out on the short end 57-61. This is just about the way the games worked out for the Gorillas all season, first winning one or two and then losing one or two. They have played some of the top teams in the state, for instance, Murdo, White River fState B Champicnsj, Menno tNo. 6 on the AP Pollj, Platte CNo. 3 on the AP Pollb , Fairfax Q19 on P0ll.l To wind up a fairly successful season, the underdog Gorillas went into District 28 play and took out the highly favored Fairfax Broncs 56 to 51. Then went on to take the championship with a win over Bone- steel 57 to 40. This enabled them to enter the Regional Tournament. The Gorillas entered the Region 7 contest with their spirits high. In Ben Kolbe and rest of teammates start a fast break. 38 Co-captains Jack McCol1am and Bob Kirwan the first thrilling game, Gregory beat Centerville 54 to 45. Menno bowled over Platte's smooth running club, which then would leave the Region 7 champions to be between Gregory and Menno. In a hard fought contest, the Menno Wolves overpowered the Gorillas for the Championship. One of the highlights in the Gorilla season was the winning of the first place trophy in the Lake Andes New Years Tournament. B Basketball Team First row: A. Sattler, D. Saathoff. A. Pow ell. V. 'As a result a shift in the line replaced the weakness and injuries. The final score was 32-0 in favor of I-Ieelan. The Bulldogs lost their strength as a hard charging line and a balanced back- field batted down their aerial attack. The final result was 7-6 in favor of the Gorillas in the first conference game of the season. The lack of stamina by the Wagner team caused their defeat on a very hot Friday afternoon 30-7. The Panthers racked up the second defeat for the Gorillas 19-0. This loss can be blamed on overconfidence and a key injury. This victory of 34-13 over Mission was the beginning of a long march to the championship. The Black Angels went to Hades as they went down with a 40-19 loss before the Gorillas. This was the second conference win as the Gorillas were well on the way to the conference championship. The defeat of Winner by Miller promised the Gorillas a taste of the victory to come, Their single wing plays were well scouted as the final result was 26-6 in favor of the Gorillas. The Rosebud Conference Championship hung in the balance in the final game of the season. Gregory was well scouted as the half time score for Winner was 12-0. A strong third quarter for the Gorillas showed 13-12. Winner made their final 'drive early in the fourth quarter making the score 18-13. The weary and determined Gorillas pushed over the winning touch- down in the last few seconds of the game, leaving the Gorillas the undis- puted Champions of the Rosebud Conference.
