We were a scared, but she was in for a rough year. our boots off before the bell rang and we imagine Miss Phillips got quite angry with us. We also remember Jack Stanley always sitting in the Nbad chair' and Betty White getting her head caught in the merry-go-round. Kay Cattin left us for the winter to go to Florida and rejoined us again in the spring. We entered the second grade under the teachings of Miss Sharkey. Since we were one year older and had one school year under our belts, we felt pretty big and toughg boy did we show those first graders a thing or two! This year we When we reached the third grade we really again lost Kay Cattin and when she joined us again in the would never make up her mind just where she wanted to Sharkey decided that our class was rather noisy, so she and green slips to those who talked. Mrs. Adams was a teacher we will never forget. lasting impression of her whipping Sam y Henry in front of the class. While this was going on everyone else was wondering just when his turn would be. We always wondered how Don Merriman felt when Lois landed in his arms. It seems she was doing arithmetic problems on the blackboard and fainted into Don's arms. Then Mrs. Adams carried her out of the room. During the year we lost Don Mer- riman and gained Eldridge Murphy. Mrs. Smith was our fourth grade teacher, and this was a year we enjoyed very much. We remember that those who made an 'An in spelling were allowed to play with clay. This was the year that Lois scared everyone to death when she ran the pencil lead in her hand and almost fainted. It seemed to us that this was the year for casualities when Sue hit her head on the merry-go-round. Every one was so worried about her: even the Superintendent came down to examine her head, Kthe rest of us had ours examined later! and then took her down town to buy her a malt! During the year Kay Ephlin entered to finish her school years with us and Sonny Whitaker joined us again after attending Whiteland. A little mystery that was never cleared up, was why Janice Smith put Kay Cattin's crayons under the slide on the playground. This was Jan1ce's star year as her mother was our teacher. Our fifth their interest learned how to grade teacher was Miss Record. By now the girls were losing in Santa Claus and turning towards the boys. This year we play kick ballg and also how Betty White's pigtail would look blue. It seems that George Propps dipped it in the ink well. The sixth and all of us loved her very much. At the first of the year Velma Morris and Carol Akard joined our happy family. About mid-term Venious Beckner end Betty Ballinger also started their school years with us. We remember the one act plays we used to give in front of the room, and everyone was certain that he was grade was one we shall all remember. Our teacher was Mrs. Maze a born star of stage and screen. This was the year the school received the new teeter totters on the playground. their arms and legs. It was the first time we changed classes and went from room to room. Getting used to teachers was a hard task and we will long remember the time Mr. Eggloff scared Carol Akard to death in math class and made her cry. Mr. Palmer, our history teacher, was always telling us tall tales and playing his harmonica. This year Jim Jewell joined our class. In the eight grade we had the great privilege of having Mr. Isom in math. We will never forget some of the tests he gave us or the jokes he told. This was the year that nslam Booksn were popular, and we found they were quite dangerous in Mr. Isom's hands. Our first year of high school really started off with a bang. The first thing that happened to us was the Sunshine Initiation and we really looked silly. The upper classmen called us nGreen Freshmenn and they sure were right when they named us. Algebra. biology, and latin were just a few of our prob- lems. Although most of us complained about our latin, we still had time to make up a song. 'we've been working on our Latinn. The girls who took biology remember the time we cut up wormsg we just cou1dn't understand why they had to have this class after lunch. We lost Betty Ballinger this year. We remember Mr. Waymire's Health and Safety Class. He not only taught us health but also how to flirt with the Senior boys and girls. The girls were quite angry with him too ------ we just couldn't understand why he wouldn't let the Senior boys come to our class party. Our very efficient class officers for the year were: President. . . . . . . . . . . . . .Joanne Fewell Vice-President . . . . Jim Jewell Secretary. . . . . . Kay Ephlin Treasurer. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Lois Morgan Our Junior year was one high school year never to forget. We were looking forward to the big reception that we would give the Seniors. Little did we kn0l of the work we were going to do before the reception was possible. We will never forget Mr. Isom's great idea of selling 'dill pickles' at the basketball games. We thought we were really 'big time when we received our class ringsg and we imagine everyone got tired looking af them. Near the end of the year Jim Steele joined our class. Those at the head of our class this year were: President. . . .Joanne Fewell as Vice-President . . . . . Jim Jewell 7 Secretary. . . .Betty White ep Treasurer. . . Janice Smith GQ! Historian. . We have worked like mad on the annual and on the school paper. We've had our class quarrels ----- but what class doesn't, and our big event of the year was the Pig- skin Prom. The girls in the class will long remember their chemistry experi- ments, and the trouble they had in getting them to work. For proof there was the hole in Carol's yellow sweater and the burn on Betty's hand. Tom Fitzgearld joined our class for this last year. The play was a three act comedy by Donald Payton entitled nIfMother Only Knew.' The characters in it are John and Janet Maxwell who are cele- brating their twentieth wedding anniversary. Their three teen-age children, Connie, Betty Lou, and Wilbur, put their heads together and sign a pact that never again will they cause their parents any grief. However, within twenty- four hours their new resolutions come tumbling all about them because of their Mother's friends, Dr. Gladys Goocn, and her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Gooch. There are also wilbur's close friend, Hercules, and Betty Lou's chum, Bernadine, who help cause the trouble and help solve the problems. Police officers are called, but their decisions are not needed. nBrainsnBurke,Connie's boy friend, isn't as much help as he thinks he is. Staging arrangements, the play set, and all other production details were handled by the members of the class under faculty supervision. The play was co-directed by Mrs. J. William Betner, high school English 1nstructor,and Mrs. Earl wolf, business education teacher. Qfaaa LZ!
