GEGEAAAX lg ,.y io Back row, left to rlght Ruth Shannon, Katherlne Allder, llarcia Cralle, Jean Rose Strauss, Nadine Potter, Kathleen Brown, Cherry Ledgerwood, Doris Faye, Elenor Caldwell, Jean Rubenstein Flrst row Edwina Booth, Louetta Climber, Marianna lark, Betty Youngblood, Dora eulnn, Jud1th Webb, Annabelle Thompson, Irma Hennrlcks, lary Stewart The Greenwood Girls' Athletlc ASSOCl tlon was Olgahladd lh Aprll, 1930, for the purpose of promoting good health, clean living, and a higher degree of sportsmanship in school and class spirit Its motto is, HA girl for every sport, and a sport for every girl W Hockey, archery, tennis, swimming, volleyball, basketball, badminton, hiking, and baseball are the sports wh1ch are offered every year to the girls who desire them This year, however, the sports were carried on in a dlfferent manner At the beginning of each term the G G A A members chose the sport which they wanted to play durlng that term Then certain days each week were set aside for the girls to participate in the chosen sport In this way all the members could play together and have more complete teams than other wise Hockey was played during the fall term, basketball, 1n the winter term, and baseball, ln the sprlng term The u G A A meets on the f1rst and third Mondays of every month Each month some kind of a party lS held Twlce a year an all school play nite is held by the club members for the rest of the girls in h1gh school T e G G A A also joins wlth the Drum Corps every year to give their annual football and basketball banquets G G A A members are rewarded for their merlts each year at the Award Ass mbly Every sport is counted as one hundred points, except for hik ing, which is rated one point for each mile hiked For every hundred points a girl earns, she receives a chevron When a girl makes six hun dred points, she is entitled to a large HG W The very highest award is the Greenwood athletic sweater which is worth one thousand points Hrs Florence Baker Bugg has been the sponsor of this group since its beginning, with the exception of the year 1934 35, when she was on leave of absence. The officers for the school year of 1941 42 were: Irma Hen dricks, president, Anna Lee Taylor, vice president, Katherine Allder, secretary, and Nadyne Potter, treasurer.
