We work together for better and happier home life for every one. We think that helping to make happy homes now and in the future, is the most im- portant thing youth can do in a democracy. Iouisiana's Home Economics clubs were known as Junior Home- makers, the organization developed into one of the strongest in the nation. In fact, for a period of years, Louisiana had the honor of having the largest membership in America. Our organization was known as Junior Homemakers until June, 1945. That year Louisiana's Junior Homemakers clubs accepted the name Future Homemakers of America. The emblem of the Future Homemakers of America is octagonal in shape and bears the name of the organization, Future Homemakers of America around the top of the plane, while around the lower Efde of It is the motto, 'Toward New Horizons.' 'In the center, there is a house supported by two hands which symbolizes that the homes of America are in the hands of its youth. The colors, red and white, are symbolic of youth, our flower, red rose is symbolic of vibrant, glowing health, a necessary attri- bute for happiness and efficiency in home and group life. Our motto 'Toward New Horizons' expresses the purpose of the organization--learning to live better today in order that our lives and those of our families may be better tomorrow. The Greenwood Chapter has been on the Standard of Excellence for ten years. Our chapter sent Martha McCluney to Kansas City, Missouri last July to represent us there at the National Convention. Soem of the Greenwood Chapter's projects for the past few years are: Remodeled bedroom and sick room, made curtains for Recreation Room and helped prepare the lounge for the teachers. Betty V. Brooks served as North Louisiana District F.H.A. secretary. Three girls of our chapter served as officers of the Caddo F.H.A. They were Martha McCluney, President, Betty V. Brooks, Secretary, Helen Williams, Treasurer. Frances Haggard will serve as President and Elsie Meyer will serve as Vice-President of the Caddo F.H.A. for 1949-50. Our local officers are Martha McCluney, President, Betty Bryson, Vice-President, Frances Haggard, Secre- tary, Elsie Meyer, Treasurer, Betty Jo Cobb, Parliamentarian, Betty V. Brooks, Program Chairman and Wanda Hines, Reporter. Our first Chapter Mother is Mrs. Tom Bryson. The Greenwood Chapter'has made great progress for the last few years under the wise leadership of our advisor, Mrs. Ethel Spencer, and we hope to make further progress 'Toward New Hor1zons.' 1278 Chapter Mother--Janis Bryson Sponsor--Ethel Spencer H A .. 'x THE F.F.A. CHAPTER The Greenwood F.F.A. Chapter was organized in 1946. The number of members then was thirty-eight which was a very good start for the new chapter. The boys were under the supervision and leadership of Mr. D. L. Kennedy. They advanced far beyond their expectations in the improvement of africulture and the development of self-leadership. The Chapter in the Present '49' has really been progress- ing in its farm improvements. At the first of the year there was a Program of Work made out to take care of that year. The main factors under this Program of Work are: Supervised Farm- ing, Community Service, Cooperative Activities, Leadership, Earnings and Savings, Conduct of Meetings, Scholarship, Recrea- tion and General Activities. There is a special committee in charge of each main factor. These committees work very hard to reach the fulfillment of the Program of Work to their chapter rank in the 'An.class. There are many happy events to be worked out in the near future such as: The Father and Son Banquet, a number of hay- rides, a Weiner roast, a fish-fry and the State Convention. There will also be a Parlimentary Procedure and Public Speak- ing Contest. The chapter is now advised and directed by their new agriculture teacher, Mr. Crosby Crain. X .,6W,p w . It is composed of members of the General Science and Biology classes. The members selected the following officers: President ----------- Gwen Garrett Vice President ---------- Joy Rich Sec.-Treas. ---- Jacqueline Butler Sponsor ------------ Elsie Moreland The club was organized to create a more active interest in the affairs of science. Their motto, 'Scientific minds bring successful futures,' carries this aim out very effectively. The club song, 'Honeysuckle Rose' and the club flower 'Wild Honey- suckle' fit in very nicely with the study of science. As class projects, with the cooperation of their sponsor, Mrs. Elsie Moreland, the club members have made: posters concern- ing different phases of biology, notebooks illustrating the study of birds and living things, and notebooks about the physical world in which we live. It is slowly clearing and we see the large campus of a great university. Look, there is someone walking across the campus! Gee, look who it is!! It's our old friend and former president of the '49 Senior Class, Jackie 'Fuzzy' Rose!!! Gosh, look at the co-eds admiring him! Well, let's follow and see what happens. Golly, we're at a huge football stadium!! Oh, let's see if we can find anyone else we know...he's just the head football coach!! Ah, yes, we see someone else. It's our dear old friend, Helen Williams! She's a Professor of Mathematics and half of us can't even add 2 R 2 yet!! Well, let's journey on some more. Look at that beautiful building over there! Let's go inside. We are now opening the door and walking into a large room. Oh, catch meg I'm seeing pink elephants!! What are elephants doing in here? in another room in the next room, and cows in the next one!! look at little pigs! Look at the dogs! What a precious cat! We are now the horses those cute This is filled with monkeys!! Well, look at the last room, let's go in and see what's there. Well, well, looks as if Dr. look at that General Jackson schoolmate too! What is this invented by our Let's listen seem very dull, Bogue, Jr.? Oh voice!! Our taxi is waiting on us, we'd better hurry! 1sn't our chum, again after so long a time! O.K., here we are at depot. Is everybody here? Say, I just found out Bill Davidson finally made it!!! soldier!! Uh, oh! Get ready to salute, it's P. Bryson!!! Just think, he used to be our Remember?? world coming to? There's even a 'Tom' bomb, old friend, Jim Tom McCluney!!! to the radio for e while. The sports finals doesn't it? Did he say he was Amos Travis , we must compliment him for such a good radio If the driver seeing him the train who the train Cornelius 'Han' Witvliet!! Fancy engineerman is! It is none other than Robert 'Red' Hudson!! As we pull into New York City, we can hear the jazz jumping down at Carnegie Hall!! Let's humor our curiosity a bit and pay Carnegie Hall a visit. Look who's on the stage!! lelsie Duncan d1dn't make a muscle 'Springer' after all !!! Let's take a plane to the west coast now. Did you here them say that we're risking our lives in the hands of two old friends' Joe Phillips is the pilot and Billy Phillips is the co-pilot of this luxurious air-liner! I feel safe, don't you??? Where are we going? We're going to Hollywood, of course!! Now that we're in Hollywood, let's stroll around a bit. Bless my soul!! If it isn't wanna 'Punkin' Lloyd that I see in that I-G-H studio!! I hear that she has the leading role in 'School Days At Greenwood in '49!! Whew! let's rest a while! Here's the Upsweep Curl Shop. Let's gc in and have a manicure and a shampoo while we talk to the two proprietresses, Rita and Betty Williams. Betty has been married five years to a promising young attorney. Now, we're on our way home and passing the new First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. we notice on the neon sign that the pas- tor is the one and only Carl Crenshaw, Jr., our friend back in '49. He and his lovely young wife live in the elaborate parscnage on Oak Cliff Drive. let's go on down to Houston and take a cruise. My, my, what a beautiful luxury Liner!! What!!!! Did you say the captain is Lamar Garland?? Now that we are back in Shreveport, let's go have our pictures made and see how we look after a long journey, and of course we'll have to gc to Gwen Bradford and Bessie 0den's studio to have them made! I hear they take very nice pictures and such a beautiful finish!! You've never seen anything like it. I just read in the Shreveport Times Newspaper that Nettie Lafitte is now a model in Paris, France. And did you know that Richard Hammett is now the owner of the Shreveport Times??? Well, he started out young for such e position as that!! An old friend of Marie Witvliet told me she had gone to Holland several years ago to visit her relatives and didn't come back!! She is happily married to a dairyman there in Holland. Maybe she will come back soon to visit us!! I can't leave you all without mentioning Martha Grace McCluney! She's the sweet little brunette that used to talk all the time in our English class! Remember?? She is now composing her words into books, as she is one of the most famous novel writers!!! It has been a pleasure taking this journey with such dear old friends that I will never forget. Maybe it won't be too long before we meet again!
