bienvenidos amigos George Pflucker, Uriel Carrasquilla. For the first time in over ten years, Greenwood Central School hosted two Latin American exchange students, Uriel Carras- quilla and Jorge Pilucker. Uriel Carrasquilla, a I6 year-old, blue-eyed, honey-haired sen- ior and all-around athlete, came to us from Managua, Nica- ragua on December ll, 1971. Although not fluent in English, Uriel soon became one of the gang. When we had finally mastered our bi-lingual, sign language system of communication with Uriel, George, our other ex- change student, arrived. Jorge Pilucker, a 15 year-old, dark-haired Junior from Lima, Peru came on December 28. Everyone was prepared to bridge the communication gap, but to our surprise and relief, Jorge's English was excellent. Naturally, this helped him to participate more in every aspect of our lives. His contribution to the Eng- lish Ecology assisnment made us realize that our concern with conservation is shared by foreign students also. Uriel and Jorge came to our school and our community to im- prove their English and learn our way of life. Our school of- ered them the experience of our academic and athletic cur- riculumg the host families, the DeTines and the Pritchards plus all the other families who graciously entertained Uriel and Jorge gave them the experience of participating in our Ameri- can way of life. The exchanfge was fruitful for us too. We learned that no one is ai stranger i we try to communicate and that there are no bar- riers to communication if our interest is great enough. We wish Uriel and Jorge well. May they return to their respec- tive countries as our very best goodwill ambassadors. Adios y Buena Suerte!
