These people have helped us to develop our minds and bodies and accept the responsibility for living independent lives. They not only prepared us so we might accept life in our world, but, they also prepared us so that our World might accept us. We, the Seniors, now say thank-youv to our principal, Mr. Wright, our school board, our faculty, our office help, our aides, custodians, bus drivers, and cooks. Thank you for our futures. As we use the term referring to a graduating class, we are speaking of a varied group of young adults who have generally spent many years together in school. The important characteristic is however, the variability which exists within the class. There are those, within your class, who shall be college bound and as such will probably leave Green- wood to go to, greener pastures where you shall make your place in the world. Also within your class are those on the other end of the scale whom society will need to make a place for away from Greenwood. There is however another group, much larger than both of these groups combined, who shall reside in the Green- wood area and who shall lead happy, productive lives but who perhaps shall never leave a lasting mark upon the world. You are at a crossroad of life at this point. You will be required to make your choice as to whether you are going to be a changer of the world, or if you are going to be kept by the world. The Board of Education, your community, your teach- ers and myself now send you off to the adult world. We have high aspirations that you will use your education to the very best advantage in order that your commu- nity, your school, your family and your friends may be justifiably proud of your accomplishments. Even now, many of us do not see this full meaning since we are only beginning our adult lives. We found that ureadinl, 'ritin', 'n' 'rithmeticf' had more depth to them than we ever imagined in grade school. We also began realizing that all were interrelated. We also sensed that our school year seemed to be speeding by since we were socializing more and participating in many sports and activities. Most of our ac- tivities as underclassmen were to help make our dream come true. That dream was the Senior Trip to Washington, D.C. We had dances, plays, bake sales, and anything we could think of to raise money and have everyone go to Washington Now we are the Seniors and we realize that some of the best years of our lives were spent in junior and senior high school. We all are sorry to see these slip by us. But, we now are looking forward to making our big dreams and hopes for the future become realities. 20 x W 9- r N f.i.' 'Q rv' gif . . Through activities, we developed our imaginations and found an opportunity to do things we might never have experi- enced. In music, a few of us learned to express ourselves as individuals, while many of us learned to combine with others and express ourselves in a group. Through band, chorus, and musicals, we shared our achievements with the community and showed our parents our talents. Yearbook and newspaper work gave us the chance to express ourselves through words and pictures. We found refuge in music, yearbook, newspaper, and in the many other activities offered by Greenwood Central School. We were happy for this opportunity to uunwindi' and release tensions. 26 n s .Vt w 1 ', ,, r IC t i 1 A . 'avg . Through the many sports that are offered at Greenwood Cen- tral School we learned to get along with others and work as a team for a single goal. Even the difficult times we had among ourselves never kept us from being good friends and good team-mates. i As a class, we proved ourselves quite an athletic group, Some of us stomped op- posing teams and scored goals for our soccer team, while others pulled down balls from the backboards raced dovvncourt and scored baskets, while our cheerleaders shouted us on. A few of us were at our best when we were flying around the track helping bring G.C.S. into a first, second, or third place position. Even though we have not left any trophies for our four years, we have left many wonderful memories here at Greenwood Central School. 36 4 ml? .'7'1P:. ' . 59? s ', N I ,v . . x Q. Many of us will test numerous short-cuts which only turn out to be de- tours. We have found that our last four years of school have been experiments in life. Yet, we have seen a difference. Our experiments have not been permanent, we always have had our parents to help us out of difficult situations. Now, as we leave high school, we will be accepting more responsibility for our actions. Our classmates have helped prepare us for life since each represents a type of person we may meet in our futures. A few have worked hard for the benefit of all, many have worked for their own benefit, and some have not worked at all. This is all part of life. We, the Seniors, think we are now ready to choose our paths and to try our best as we travel on them. 42 .VK .Q ' 44 ,vi 'Sr fig? Ffh' gk? O 4 Q 'x og., 'QQ' - 1 -1--' I Qi ,QI 1' 14 1 lt n r u -vu. We were placed in the kindergarten class under Miss Younglovels careful supervision. Of these thirty-tvvo students, only fourteen of us remained throughout the next twelve years: Martha Burdick, Bruce Cornell, Dale Edwards, Sue Culliver, Steve Harkenrider, Steve Heckman, Karen Holt, Pam Holt, Steve Hunt, Starla Iackson, Anne McCormick, Kerry O,Brien, Judy Vanderhoef and Tom Holt. First grade brought us many new trials. Our main goal this year was learning to read. Mrs. A. White taught us then. Second grade brought us under Mrs. York's guidance. We added Ava McCaffrey and Dale Waters to our class list. Mrs. Streeter taught us in third grade and Mrs. J. White took over when we arrived in fourth grade. Here, we added Steve Benjamin to our class list. As fifth-graders we had Mrs. Plaisted and as sixth- graders, Mr. Dungan. We felt we were really growing up. After all, we were almost in the junior High School. Our first year of junior high was supervised by Mrs. Fehl. We had lots of fun this year when we sold bookcovers that nobody seemed to be able to use. We added to our class list this year Earl Dixon and Wanda Mullikan. Mrs. Putnam helped us with all our troubles during that second year of junior high. We felt proud because we were almost in high school. It was really a rough year, though. We sold Christmas cards, paper, and pencils. John Cady and Rookie Ford joined our class during this year. Finally, we made it to ninth grade, our first year of high school. We were placed under the supervision of our one and only Mr. Duke. We gained Denise Kieff and Ron Wood- worth this year. Mr. Duke stayed with our class for the next two years. We really had a lot of fun with him and were sorry to hear we would not have him as seniors. We are now the top class in the school with Mrs. Rollins as our advisor. We are looking forward to the Senior Trip and all the other special activities and events that come with being seniors. We added Dave Ahearn to our list, now totaling to twenty-five. We are now at the point of parting and are looking forward to all the things we have planned for our futures. But, we will never forget these thirteen great years at Green- wood Central School. We also thank you, Mrs. Rollins, for the help you have given us during our high school years, especially our Senior year. During our other high school years you helped all of the musically inclined students. This year, you added to that., the help you have given us in our magazine sales, dances, graduation plans, and most of all, our Senior Trip. Thank you, Mrs. Rollinsf, from everyone of us. We, the Senior Class, thank you, Mr. Duke, for your help in our freshman, sophomore, and junior years. You have helped us through our stationary sales and our candy sales. Gradually, our treasury improved. But, you are a Math teacher and you know how to juggle numbers. Who knows what happened in that little bank book of oursl From all of us, Thank you, Mr. Dukef' 45 M 3 n J, f mm A r iw L, Y Q, - -1. 2. 5 Very Good, What's the encore? Missing: Lynn Cady Holt Wanda Mullikan LaBar 51 class prophecy Late in the year 1971, Rockie Ford, our class scientist, finally perfects a workable time machine. To test it, he decides to check on the future status of his ex-classmates. A likely year to test it is 1984. Thirteen years should be lucky for our class! Somehow, his first stop is in Albany. New York is celebrating the inauguration of its first lady governor. Our ex-homeroom advisor, Mrs. June Rollins, has done the impossible by defeating the undefeatable Nelson Rockefeller. Since he has started out by visiting our past advisors, he decides to check on another, Mr. Raymond Duke. He leams that Mr. Duke has recently purchased Ireland with his winnings from the Irish Sweepstakes. fSee, sometimes it does pay to be Irish.J Next, Rockie decides to visit the boys of the class, so he ret1u'ns to Greenwood. The town has long since become a metropolis with Steve Heckman as mayor. The city is thinking of changing its name to Huntsville, since Steve Hunt recently built Hunt's Town House restaurant, the tallest building in the country. Another classmate, Earl Dixon, was recently elected county sheriff At present, he is working on a case for David Ahearn, the new District Attorney. Later, Rockie visits New York's answer to the King Ranch, owned by Dale Edwards and Dale Waters. Steve Harkenrider is their right-hand man, the highest paid one in the country. Ron Woodworth and John Cady are co- owners of the 'KG11eenwood 500,', which took over when the Indianapolis went out of business. Kerry O' Brien is their star racer, with Bruce Cornell a close second. Tom York is not available around this part of the country since he bought Las Vegas from Howard Hughes. Last, but not least of the boys, is our class genius, Steve Benjamin, who recently won the Nobel Prize in Mathematics for disproving Einsteinis theory. The girls in the class are next on Rockieis list. He finds Pam Holt as the principal of the new Greenwood High School with Starla Iackson as her secretary. Martha Burdick, Iudy Vanderhoef Ava McCaffrey, and Sue Gulliver purchased the old school building to use as a rest home for retired teachers. Lynn Holt and Wanda LaBar are happily settled as housewives and mothers. Anne McCormick is the head nurse at Greenwoodis new hospital. Denise Kieff and Karen Holt had been candidates for Senator from New York. Karen won, but Denise is still happy since she was recently appointed Ambas- sador to Red China. Now back to Rookie. When he returns to his time machine, he discovers that he has for- gotten to put reverse gears on it As far as we know, he is still floating around in the fu- ture! dedzcatzon There is a woman who loves life. A woman who is enthusiastic and has enough Willpower to overcome hard obstacles. A woman who can draw the best out of people. A Woman who is not afraid to share of herself with students- helping them over the bumpy places of high school life. This woman has meant much to the class of 1971, as counselor and friend. mW,x I A The class of 1971 honors x Mrs. Sara Squires in the presentation of this year- book. 55 f fymgfeffaw 'sizz- xg 2 T324 fu .. ,ug fm 5 as 2 ses? ..
