These people were slrghtly frtghtened when we frrst talked to them but soon our Nurse, Mrs john D Rocketfella jr , the former Jeanne Cornell, won their confidence and she also amused them wrth her amateur magrcran tucks that she learned from her husband le' Perhaps the mogt important person on the trrp and perhaps the least glorrfred IS our record keeper, Nhss Beverly Rermann Beverly has farth fully kept all the records of the trrp to take back to Earth for further study Beverly left her yob as secretary to the Secretary of the State to take thrs trip That day when we went back to our shlp our agrrculturalrst, Eugene Baker, removed the ammals from the shxp so that we could study then reactrons to the clrmate on thrs strange planet Up untrl the present trme, no more events have taken place, although you could hardly call thrs a dull journey I shall try and make contact wrth you agam tomorrow Untrl then, adros Thrs paper, The Chtcago Globe, wrll carry all articles on this trrp by the fxrst hand SCCOUHIS of our reporter Untrl our next report remember you saw rt here frrst . 0 O - S n . o 0 ' san .ns Q . ll ll ' . . - Ou'- Q , - g o . . . . , . . The purpose of this award is to encourage qualities which the teachers believe will make good citizens for our community and country. This award has nothing to do with scholastic achievement. The Terrace Times was again organized this year in hopes of producing a better, more interesting school newspaper. As our leader, we chose Phyllis Plank who has the task of managing editor. The other members of our staff are: News Editor, David Frankg Sports Editor, Arnold Shermang Feature Editors, Jeanne Cornell, Sarajean Lippert and Beverl Reimanng Business Department, Shirley Cafferyg Junior News Editor, William Petteysg News Collector, Lyla Baker and Kathleen Greeneg Advisor, Mr. Lowrey. Our prize possession is a letter from our principal, Mr. Frank, concerning the Christmas edition, stating that it was the best paper he had seen in a long time. Ye are going to try harder and see if we can produce an even more outstanding newspaper soon. Our 1953 edition contains three pages of student snapshots. The Yearbook Staff and the Photography Club jointly are the proud possesaors of a splendid camera. The Photography Club has sponsored a contest and the best snapshots are pictured in this year's Yearbook. It is with regret that we bid adieu to three Seniors who have been on the staff all their high school ca- reers. Patricia Johnson, who is editor of this year's annual, has also been active as secretary, chairman of the photography committee and helped on the advertising committee. Shirley Caffery has been chairman of the assembly committee for the longest time in the history of the Triple Terrace. On Kathleen O'Brien's shoulders for the past few years has rested the responsibility of making the annual a financial success. She has been chairman of the advertising committee. Another Senior, Phyllis Plank, has been with us three years. She has been active as chairman of the write-up committee and as a member of the advertising com- mittee. We are all looking forward to commencement to find out who won the Staff Member Honor Award. This is the first time we have given the Columbia Scholastic Press Association medal. A The Library Club has been working hard with its advisor, Mrs. Sutton, to make the library a more inter- esting place in which to work and read. iiach member of the club helps other students check out books and also sees that magazines are treated ' carefully and replaced on the shelves at the end of the period. The members are required to read and report on an interesting book they have read during the year. The reports are made durin the regular meetings of the club. We went to Hornellg to see a movie based on the book, Ivanhoe. Every one enjoyed this movie very much. The club has had a few social events.hWe had a Christmas panty at which we exchanged humorous gifts. Refreshments were served. Also the club members and their frien s enjoyed a skating party at Wellsville. The most important accomplishment of the library club this year has been making a complete new Cltl' logue of the library books and rearranging the books on the shelves. The Photography Club started the year with high hopes. They organized quickly and set to work. They' purchased a flash camera in cooperation with the Yearbook Staff with the idea of getting snapshots for the yearbook and to help members of the club understand the working of a larger camera. The members are developing their own films and making their own reprints. The Photography Club sponsored a contest in which all students in grades nine through twelve partici- pateg. 'ILhe winner of this contest will receive a prize and the better snapshots will be printed in this year's year oo . The Projection Club is purely a service club designed to serve the school by actually operating the dif- ferent visual aids equipment in the school and handling all donations from the Saturday night movies. For the first time our school has had two 16mm projectors and a full length movie can be shown on Sat- urday night without a break. Also for the first time this year several members were called on to operate the television set during the inauguration of our president. This service is a preview of what will become a regular duty of the projection club members in the future. The club this year took an active part in selecting the Saturday night movies. The Radio Staff is the most recent addition to our school's activities. The Radio Staff handles the fif- teen minute program held each week at 5:15 P.M. over station WWHG Hornell, New York. Each week one boy and one girl writes the script and presents it over the air. The programs include interviews, a run down on the present and coming school activities and at Christmas a special Radio Play was presented. They tested all our licensed drivers by taking them over a course that contained every conceivable traffic problem. We also had an assembly which consisted of a demonstration on stopping distance. The grades and the high school saw some films dealing with safety. The adult leaders of the community held a luncheon and discussed driving in the Machine Age. We hope that after our many circles in the practice area, our country driving and city driving, we can remember the National Safety Council's slogan, The Life You Save May Be Your Own. L. The Girl's Athletic Association is completing its third year as an organization. All girls in grades ten through twelve are eligible. The girls participate in basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, ping-pong and badminton. The Association is planning a play day set for March 20th, which will include girls from jasper, Troups- burg and Woodhull. Beverly Reimann has been our Captain this year and Shirley Caffery has been Co-Captain. The team, though not having a good season in terms of wins and losses, showed marked improvement throughout the season. David Frank led the team as the field general. Victor Losey did a masterful job as our goalie. Without benefit of experience, Robert Harkenrider and james Lounsberry made up one of the best fullback teams in the county. Laverne Stephens, Archie Kernan, Ronald lirsley, Ralph Nlix, Thomas Harkenrider and Bryan Higgins give promise of a successful team next year. Captain Dale Hovey, Arnold Sherman and Dale Woodworth will be missed next year. At the l, 5-ning of the 1952-53 school year, there were twelve girls who won the honor of representing Grcenwoot its two cheering squads. These girls were the six Varsity and six junior Varsity cheer- leaders. T girls were chosen the preceding Spring to root the Greenwood Eagles to victory the coming year. Althou,,. .icy are seldom mentioned, the cheerleaders supply the spirit to keep the boys going and show them the school is behind them in their games. During the Autumn months the girls cheered the soccer team. When the boys turned in their soccer shoes for a pair of sneakers and a basketball, the girls followed them from the soccer field to the basketball court. ln the middle of the basketball season, we were unfortunate to lose Mary Agnes Updyke from the Varsity squad but her position was filled by Phyllis Plank the Varsity alternate. These are the girls you hear at the games shouting loud and clear- Come on Greenwood! First lfow, L. to R.: Dale Woodworth, David Frank, Darold Coddington, Robert Kramericlr.
