Clima Mate , Alma Mater, Greenwich High School, Name we hold so dear, As we gather here to cheer you and your name revere. Lift the chorus, speed it onward, Sing your praises true, Hail to thee our Alma Mater, This our song to you. Hail our High School, Alma Mr-ter School we hold so dear, And we'll, fight for Greenwich High School and her name revere. Lift the flag and bring it forward, Hail the school we cheer. And we'll sing for you, our High School, raise our voices clear. Ifxview ul Here we are near the end of another school year, and, as always, our happiness at the thought of graduating is tinged with sadness at having to leave the place where we have enjoyed ourselves 30 much and where we have made so many friends. High school has meant studying- history, chemistry, shorthand, algebra - everything from English literature to baking a cake. But we've learned other things, too - responsibility, initiative, and cooperation, through extra-curricular activities, such as music, athletics, dramatics, and clubs. We've held offices in classes and organizations, learning to govern ourselves and we've competed with others for honors. And, then too, there have been all of those important little things, the gab fests, the bus rides, noon hour strolls, going to basketball games, to band tournaments, and to proms. The past four years are a kaleidoscope of faces and scenes and events. The 1955 Echoes will try to help you relive the past year and enable you to recall, we hope with nostalgia, familiar scenes and faces of Greenwich High School. This page sponsored by AKRON STANDARD MOLD COMPANY DEDICATION We, the Senior Class dedicate this 1955 Echoes to Mr. R. A. Imhoff in grateful recognition of his untiring efforts in bringing the 1955 Huron-Erie League Championship to Greenwich High School during hi8 first year as our coach. Three other records were recorded by them this season: Bob Stewart, Dick Morris, Bud Music, and Jim Pettit all broke Bob Gorhams record of 2jh points in a single season. The team broke the single game point record twice and tied it once with an 85-71 victory over Monroeville, a 91-7C victory over North Fairfield, and a 91- 9 win over Townsend- Wakenan. The Greenwich and Milan Fans in the last game of the season was the 1 largest growd to watch a basketball game on the Greenwich court. The Greenwich Shamrocks, co-captained by the four Seniors, Bob Stewart, Dick Morris, Bud Music, and Jim Pettit, during the year won the Union Invitational Tournement, captured the Huron-Erie League Title, and won third place in the Huron County Tournement. All of these netted Greenwich their first trophies in a number of years. A trophy was won by Bob Stewart for the best foul shooting during the season. His percentage was 69 . This foul shooting by Bob, as well as the rest of the members of the squad helped to make the record as impressive as it was. IXaring the Berling Heights game had it not been for the accuracy of their foul shooting the result would have been an embarrassing loss. Although a few Greenwich fans don’t beleive that this 5 -55 squad was the best in the School's history, they will have to admitt that the l8—2 record, a league title, winner of an invitional tournement, the single game scoring re- cord, and the fact that the four seniors all broke the total number of points made by one player in a single season made the Shamrocks a team that will be re- membered in many years to come. Leroy King--- Left to Right; Coach, Mr. Imhoff, Jimmy Pettit, Bob Stewart, Dick Morris, Tom Robson, Bud Music, and Lorin Brown. This page sponsored by Greenwich Theater The Future Farmers of America, or 'FFA' as it is commonly known, is a National Organization for farm boys studying Vocational Agriculture in public secondary schools under the provisions of the National Vocational Education Acts. The organization has a membership of over 333,000. It is made up of U8 state associations, and the Puerto Rica and Hawaii Associations. As an integral part of the program of Vocational Education in Agriculture in the public schools of America, the FFA has become well known in recent years. No national student organi- zation enjoys greater freedom of self-government under adult counsel and guidance, then the Future Farmers of America organized in November 1928, it has served to motivate and vitalize, the systematic instructions offered to students of vocational agriculture, and to provide fur- ther training in farmer-citizenship. The FFA is an intra-curricular activity having its origin and roots in a definite part of the school curriculum—Vocational Agriculture. Among other things, members learn through active participation how to conduct and take part in public meetings; to speak in public; to buy and sell cooperatively; to solve their own problems; to finance themselves; and to assume civic responsibility. The foundation upon which the FFA Organization is built, includes leadership and character development, sportsmanship, cooperation, service, thrift, scholarship, improved agriculture, organized recreation, citizenship and patriotism. The FFA exists today because of a cooperative spirit and a desire on the part of farm boys, lU ot about 21 years of age, proparing for farming through vocational agriculture, to have a national organization of their own in which they may secure practical business, experience, act as their own instructors, and enjoy the fellowship of one another. Improved agriculture, better local communities, a more satisfying farm home life, and more efficient farmer-citizens are emerging as a result of the boys' experiences. The Greenwich chapter was organized in 1950 and has approximately 60 members including honerary and associate members. The present active membership totals The chapter elects officers each year and also a .FFA queen. The officers this year are Bob Stewart, Richard Morris, Tom Robson, Dean Mead, Andy Hiltbrunner, Ronnie Kissel, Kenny Weath erbie. The queen is Miss Carole Robson. Honorary members of the chapter are Milton Schantz, Frank Chapman Millard Jones, and Charles Stevens. Each year the chapter exhibits projects at the County Fair. At the past fair the chapter had over 90 participation by its members and several awards were won by our crop and livestock exhibitors. The top chapter winner was Richard Morris who received showmanship awards with his livestock awards. The boys also participate in contests sponsored by the state association and others. During the past year the Greenwich Future Farmers of America have completed llU projects and have received a total labor income from these projects of almost 10,000 dollars. All students enrolled in Vocational Agriculture are members of the local chapter.
