CLASS HISTORY Through the four years that we have occupred G H S we have left some unforgettable marks on rts marble walls From that very first day rn the fall of 48 when the faculty peered nervously out of the wrndows to watch us trudge bravely across the Havemeyer Green rt was obvrous that we were a class apart A class touched by the hand of destrny A class of drstmctron' To start us off on our march toward fame there was that mght of nrghts that gem of gems Freshman Nrght' Ah what memorres that brrngs I can strll hear those beautrful rendrtrons of Cuanta La Gusta and Buttons and Bows sung by the all star Freshman Chorus Then came a successron of yet undrscovered talent led by Valerre Taylor who drd a fine job playmg that grand old favorrte Rustles of Sprmg Followrng th1s was a solo by jean Hansen fa graduate I mrght add of dear dead but not forgotten Mason Streetj Then came another prano solo by John Phelps thrs trme rn the form of boogre A solo by Mrss Barbara Strpen was next and last but certarnly not least that Dr IQ of 52 james Wagner offered a few classlcal selectrons Of course our master of ceremonres was rrght up to par wrth the hrgh standards of our class bemg none other than that great and unforgettable wrt Ca fanfare pleasej ohn Srmon And we cant close our memorres on thrs event wrthout mentronmg the excellent smorgasbord dmner that was served to us not the noble ladres of the cafeterra who prepared rt Of course we had officers It seems every class has them In thrs case they were left to rrght Bryce QBugsD Brown Presrdent Pat Pratley Veep Clm mformed that these two worked extremely well together that frosh yearb Wally CThe Throatj Fletcher Secretary and Sally Mortrmer Treasurer Also rn our openrng year rn G H S we put on a play That rs to say certarn select members put on a play It was of course to quote an exghth grader much smaller than myself tremendous And no wonder When we turn the yellowed leaves we read that the all star cast rncluded such greats as Sukr Thremann Bryce Brown Donna Hmckley Barbara Moore and Hardy Finch Oh and I can t forget Ctho Ive trredb that prcmc we had And as rs understandable wrth such events half the class was absent the followrng day All of a sudden we were Sophomores CThats the best way for that to happen J Naturally rt drdn t take a class of our stature bearrng and modesty long to gracefully accept the 1dc1 th rt we were begrnnrng to be Important People We celebrated our comrng of age with a Swrm am at the YM C A Creal sophrstrcated lrkej Under the supervrsron of our new class oftacers Paul Delage Presrdent Ruth Pratley V1ce Presrdent Beth Montgomery Secretary and Kay Wrlster Treas urer rt proved to be a gre tt socral success May I stress the word socral for after we had pard for the damage Qdone no doubt by members of some yealous rnferror classj we had netted the grand sum of S95 Not much of course but ours all ours The thought of havmg money m the treasury spurred the class on to brggcr and better thrngs such as the presentatron of the movre Teenrcrde Thrs prcture deprcted the horrors of reckless drrvrng by teenagers It was really qurte good and poured a substantral num ber of shekels 1nto our coffers Then came another play or more properly named our Sophomore One Act Probably one act was enough too for the records of thrs event are very vague By thrs trme some of the more talented members of the class were makrng therr presence felt throughout the school and drsplayrng therr wares before larger audrences than that of our own class Mr Harrrngton was already chantrng the prarses of such talented per formers as Walter Horne Beth Montgomery Hua Young Harry Rers Rrchy Fay Russell Bedford Martrn Valentrne and Irwrn Kotch whrle Mrs Kant was rav mg over the prowess of such greats as Frances Roberto B111 Laemmel Wally Fletcher Barbara Strpen and Marvrn Berenblum Also durrng thus perrod such future Thesprans as ohn Srmon Paul Delage and oan Church were performrng before the footllghts Of course these are yust some brref samples of the gemus our class had to offer our lucky colleagues at G H S Almost before we had wrped the sweat of the sum mer of 1950 from our sweet young faces we were unrors Thmk of rt unrors' At thrs crucral stage rn our development we changed class advrsors agarn ffrom Mr Colgrove freshman year to Mr Wrlcox sophomore year to Mr jolly Jensenj We seemed to roll up a hrgh mortalrty rate rn advrsors whrch of course could not possrbly have been our fault Along wrth thns change we also recerved a brand new set of officers Bob Sobocrnskl was our Presrdent Ken Cucuel Vrce Presrdent Pat Hyl Secretary and Kathleen fSnowyD Bartlrk our Treasurer . .. 7 ' 1 32 2 7 t - K 7. - .Q , Y . . - , .
