CLASS HISTORY To begrn with I know nobody reads this Historians before me may have been vain enough to believe that a few would scan their masterworks but I know better I realtze that no one ever notices anything but the pictures or as they are more commonly referred to -da pitchiz da pttchtz lemme see da pitchiz' I-low ever in this respect I hold a distinct advantage over any of my predecessors So go ahead and look at your old pictures I can t lose-I drew them' To begin really to begin as the preceeding was more of a facetnous preamble than anything else we were freshmen That is to say the mayornty of us were freshmen Unfortunately there are a few students now in the Class of 1950 who were at that trme sophomores and I venture to say even a few more who were strug gling rn the Junior Class Anyway all freshmen have a night' We had a night I have before me now rn an excellent state of preservatron Qthere seems to have been many of them left overj an original program of that evening called rather aptly I think Freshman Night I shall quote from it First it lists the class oth stantmo Secretary Richard Butler and Treasurer jean Creamer There followed in this order a dinner in the cafeterra an entertainment in the auditorium a salute to the flag a welcome and a greeting from the superintendent This last is not clarxlied but I do not believe that they mean the head yamtor The context of his speech has not been preserved for posterity but it was probably somethrng to the effect that now we are freshmen and that was fine and we would be acting very grown up tf we didn t carve our mitials into the lavatory walls as we d1d when we were seventh and eighth graders Then came some miscellaneous music performed by some miscellaneous people neither of which was identifiable Thrs was followed by more greetings this time by Mr Gerald Morgan who was the Assistant Principal Peter jenkrns who was the President of the Freshman Class and the parents as represented by Mr john Breese Then another musical interlude was presented under the capable but by this time rather shaky hand of Miss Virginia Roberts The evening was clrmaxed by the singing of our Alma Mater by all those assembled Afterwards there was dancing in the Girls Gym to the music of the Fresh man Orchestra which consisted of as well as I can make out three trumpet players and a drummer I shall not bother to name them here but as I have said there are many programs left and you might look them up rf you have nothing better to do I understand there was also a picnic that year at which a good number of people became quite under standably ill As sophomores under the collectively steady hand of Ray Chickanis President Peter Jenkins Vice Presi dent Bill Grey Treasurer and Bernice DePra Secre tary we also had a picnic We also had a class party Again I quote from the original program Please Post Evidently my copy never got that far Following this terse lntroduction it lists quite cleverly the where when and how much of the whole shin dig The only thing the framer of this tome seems to have omitted was the why But after all he was only a sophomore talent spread so thinly among us had begun to rise to the surface We were being represented in the realm of music by such gifted musicians as Nancy Rae George Seaman Norman Geis Ida Barto Barbara Drummond Marshall Waldemar Frank Morehouse jack Breese and Peter Schmidt On the vocal front Lynn Lyons Barry Morley Peggy Peters and jack Mer rttt made their presence felt Treadmg the boards 1n the best dramatic tradition were Dan Resnick Sigvard johnson Bill Sopoci and Penny Kane all destined to become Thesprans There were others outstanding in other fields but for the sake of continuity let us pro cee As juniors we did even better comparatively The year got off to a flying start with the now traditional election of officers CAs you may note some of the offlcers appear to have become traditional alsob The officers were Frank Morehouse President Henry Bak er Vice President Bernice DePra Secretary Ida Bar to Treasurer It was during this year that a large num 1 ' ' F 1 I ' 1 'W ' ' ' x 1 h 1 1 . 2 , I . . 1 1 ' , .
