Take a break from the present-day realities, Or a pause from your yet-to-be fantasies, And re-live all the yesterday histories Of our days at good ol' G.C.S. ii' One day we'll all be gone away, All that will be left of yesterday's tomorrows Will be our flashbacks. 5 Open the photo album of our minds, Turn the page, another Kodachrome awaits. Experience that unique instant once more, And let us live forever in our immortal memories. We are only mortal matter, But let our dreams and feelings outlast our time, And we shall outlast our own mortality. After high school, he went on to attend Clarkson College for Me- chanical Engineering. I-le then went on to receive a BS degree in Industrial Arts at SUNY at Oswego. Later Mr. Brooks attended SUNY at Albany and Columbia University to receive his Masters degree in Guidance. Mr. Brooks first came to Greenwich in 1956 to fill the position of Industrial Arts teacher. He then left in 1958 to become the Industrial Arts teacher at Shaker High School in Newton, New York. After spending a year at Shaker, Mr. Brooks moved on to Fallsburg Central School in Fallsburg, N.Y. to become their Guidance Counselor. Mr. Brooks stayed in Fallsburg for three years and then re- turned to Greenwich in 1962 to take the position of Guidance Counselor. Since that time, Mr. Brooks has been active in the golf team, the cross country ski club, and many other school activities in addition to guiding stu- dents. He has become more than a Guidance Counselor-he has become a friend. The Class of 1983 would proudly like to dedicate their yearbook to Mr. Donald Brooks, in apprecia- tion for all the time, care, and effort he has devot- ed to us. He has helped tremendously in planning both our high school years and the years which lie ahead. M16 167600163 54165 WELZC . stand. retirement. Karp qi .5 5 , sl, .1 There is one basic law that governs your future. Your understanding of that one law will have a direct effect on how far and how fast you advance, and what successes you will enjoy. This law states that you will be rewarded in fair proportion to the service you give. Your pay, promotions, and financial security will be related to the service you provide. All attempts to sidestep this law will result in failure. By not working up to your potential, being late, being careless in your work, you only cheat yourself. Our worst enemy is the mistaken belief that we can receive more than we earn. lt's your future: Make The Most Of It! If you play fair with this law and do the best you can, you will be rewarded with the successes you seek. Just getting by isn't enough. James E. Briglin Superintendent 55624 65 O Ziff SSJWOK Your graduation from Greenwich Central is a special occasion for you and your family. Only slightly over 75016 of the youngsters in our county stick to the task until it is completed. I am very pleased you have done so. Try not to remember just this yearbook and this. Your kindergarten through 12th grade process was designed to help you grow and develop into a young adult. If you have taken part in the clubs, events and sports teams, then you have developed friendships that will last a lifetime. My best for your health and happiness. John E. Fitzgerald High School Principal 619455 ffl 27016 If 79 O-7985 Our first look at junior high life was in September of 1979. We all dreaded Mr. Morabito and his 15 page papers but somehow we struggled through with a little help from our less demanding teachers. Leading us in these trying times were Bob Johnson as president, Linda Dixson as vice president, Robin Sheridan as secretary, and B.J. Linnett as treasurer. With the promise of control of the junior high, we entered the eighth grade. Linda Dixson was our president, Bob Johnson our vice president, Elaine Brooks our treasurer, and Mike Traver our secretary. In ninth grade, our class officers, president, Liz Davis, vice president, Linda Dixson, secretary, Mickki Davis, treasurer, Susan Corey, and our class advisors, Mr. Roods and Mr. Wells, urged us to concentrate on our magazine drive. With Mr. Porter's assistance, we conducted the largest drive ever at GCS. Tenth grade greeted us with tales of Punxsutawney and Mr. Holmes' rendition of Julius Caesar . Our president was Shawn Stewart, vice president was Linda Dixson, secretary was Mickki Davis, and treasurer was Susan Corey. They worked with class advisors, Mr. Roods and Mr. Wells, to help us make the momentous decision of which class rings to order. Our first adult event was The Ring Banquet in our junior year. We held it at Marty's with Mr. Holmes as our guest speaker. President Shawn Stewart, vice president Kathy Murphy, secretary Mickki Davis, and treasurer Susan Corey organized a Jr.-Sr. Alumni Semi-formal during Christmas vacation. Then our thoughts quickly turned to the prom. After much discussion, we chose Time For Me To Fly as the theme. We elected Mike Traver and Susan Corey as our King and Queen. Our attendants were Steve Peluso and Karen Vurraro, Andy Spigner and Kathy Murphy, and Shawn Stewart and Diana Cristaldi. After the prom we had dinner at Mangino's and breakfast at Hebert's. Shawn Stewart led us into our senior year with Sandy Rymph as vice president, Mike Traver as secretary, and Susan Corey as treasurer. Our first outing as seniors was the class picnic on October 3, at the Salem Fish and Game Club. As we look back on these past few years, we feel regret because we are leaving so much behind us, and hope because there is so much more for us to find. I, Ruth Van Guilder, leave GCS with sincere thanks to everyone for helping to make my years here worthwhile and for the many memories that I will treasure always. I, Mike VanSchaick, leave Mr. Ramsey a penny so that he will have a budget. I, Karen Vurraro, leave Heather Brockway the money to buy that Elvis head at the world known Scadam tag sale. I, Charlie Waite, just leave. I, Sheila Waite, leave Mrs. Rainer a fly swatter for her first period class. I, Susan Worthington, leave Ms. Vega a book entitled H101 quick and easy Field Hockey Lessons and one less visitor in the early morning when you're not yet totally awake. 66455 ZQIZOPHSHV In the year 2003, the 20th year reunion of the Class of '83 was held at the Greenwich Elks, Club. Present at the reunion was the Bowowows' lead singer Amy Patterson, shocking classmates with her new haircut- a Mohican. - Unfortunately, Nancy Nestle and Heidi Skellie were unable to attend. Nancy was painting church ceilings in Italy, and Heidi was last seen on the streets of Paris . . . drawing portraits. Also present at the reunion was millionaire Robin Sheridan. She earned her first million dollars when her renovations on an old-lETel became an instant success. In the corner, signing autographs, was disc-jockey, Cliff Jones. Rev. Ken Brown, leader of a new cult, arrived with hgmllowing which included Elaine Bgoks, Lisa Ives, Sherrill Jamieson, Sue LaCrois, Cathy Medick, Marie Williams and Dawn Aubin. 5-Star gene chard Tex Beayon arrived in a jeep and is presently leader of the first all-woman combamigade, made up of Stacy Greaves, Angela Beadle, Sandi Bardwell, Stacy Monroe, Adrienne McVicker, and Tracy Somma. The crowd was shocked when Ann Snell and Andy Spign-Ere stars of the new movie smash, On Hendersomsmcmrrivemey were taking a break from their rigorous filming schedule. As usual, Andy was surrounded by faithful body guards, Lisa Reiszel and Linda Dixson. The entertainment was provided by two of the greatest rock bands of all time, the members coming from the Class of '83. One was the Randy Moy Band, members including Taylor Henderson, LeRoy Osberg, Ron Eastman and, of course, Randy Moy. The other was the famous Sarge 8: the AWOL Band, which interrupted a world tour just to attend. The members of the band were Sean Garrow, Kyle Mosher, Bob Bradley, and Tom Sarge Almy. They topped the charts with their hit single, Going AWOL. They say they owe their success to road manager, Mike Kent. Not far behind were groupies, Shirley Bain, Sherry Godfrey, Jackie Polchowski, and Melissa Norton, and road crew, Kevin Towne, Scott Cofrancisco, and Kevin Karp. Jerry Squires, Middle Falls Fire Chief, had to use his fire fighting skills to put out a fire started by pyromaniacs mTulloch and Kim Coffin. They set fire to Playboy Bunny . . . Dianna Cristaldi's tail. 'Y Y- V Liz Davis and Ruthy VanGuilder, president and vice-president of the K-Mart chain, attended with the storeis present owner - Tammy Brownell. The reunion was interrupted by the sound of hundreds of motorcycles, namely the Honda Motorcycle Gang. Riding were classmates Bob Duchaine, Bob Barnes, Ron Facin, and on the three wheeler, Rich Esola. But-gnce the SWATlTeam was present, composed of former hockey players Sue Corey, Mickki Davis, Sue Worth- ington, and Heidi Meek, trouble was averted. Refreshmlvere provided by Sloan Bakery which is owned by Michelle Sloan, and operated by Michelle Townsend, Cheryl Tracy, Sheila Waite, and Kim?aE. Gospel singers Mary Ann Stewart, Tina Becker, Katy Aldous, and Lisa Proch were also in attendance. Unfortunately, nuclear physicist and biochemical engineer Gerry Grimes was unable to attend. He was in the middle of intense experimentm on a possible cure for athlete's foot for sufferers Jim Claus, B.J. Linnett, Steve Peluso, Shawn Stewart, and M Traver, with lab assistants Dot Birdsinger, Stan Matyka, Laurie Cox, and Kellie Medick helping him. To the amazement of the crowd, World Wide Wrestling Federation champion Keith Pretty Boy Peregrim showed up with manager Bob Harsha. The crowd went wild when he head-butted Allen Sebast. L Hired by the Class of '83, weremga hit-men, Dave Billings, Dan Freebern, Dave Rice, Charlie Waite, and Tim Bain. They were hired to knock off prophecy writers Cathy Gillis and Tracy Hebert. But those two couldn't make it anyway. They were in Intensive Care, recovering from a previous assassination attempt. Presently, they are under the care of Dr. Karen Vurraro. On the nursing staff at the same hospital are Sherry Miner, Winnie Schneider, Cathy Blake, Beth Lawrence, and Carol Davis. Also in attendance were flower children Bob Johnson, Becky Jennings, Yvette Jansen, Mike VanSchaick, Kathy Murphy, and Mike Olcott. They were passing out Peace bumper stickers, and they were dressed in togas and were wearing flowers. Many were stunned when Ringling Brother-Barnum and Bailey Circus fat lady Sandy Rymph had to be pried in the door by tattooed lady Karen Degner. Once everyone got over the initial shock of seeing old classmates, they had a great time and made plans for the next reunion. By - Cathy and Tracy Hebert fic Iliff CC YMINSSN HOEZAND Hi-at first I want to introuduce myself. I'm Yvette Jansen, an AFS exchange student from Holland who lived with the Lawrence family in Greenwich. Though I already graduated in Holland, I was a senior here. One of the objectives of AFS is to try to know more about another country with a different culture. The school makes up a big part of the community. To learn more about American life I went to Greenwich High School. The school systems are different from each other, but it didn't take me long to get used to it. Yes, there were a lot of things which surprised me fthe pledge and firedrills for examplej but it is easier to get used to something new than to lose an old habit. In the beginning it was especially hard to get to know the people. You miss your own friends and it's not easy to make new ones. You can not always explain what you want or feel because you don't know the words for it. Fortunately there were some nice kids who helped me by translating things and told me the way I had to go lI'm still thankful for that,l There are not many big differences between the school systems, but a lot of little ones. For example, in Holland we didn't have a locker, warm lunch, homeroom, pledge to the flag, firedrills, sports after school, passes for being late or for the bathroom, studyhall or the senior lounge. You see, little variations that make one big distinction. The difference I didn't like was that you needed an explanation or a pass for everything. I was not used to that, because in my school at Holland you could make more decisions on your own. What I liked most were the sports after school. In Holland, when you wanted to do sports you would have to go to another club and mostly it was one or two times a week. In the U.S. you have more chances to get better and you are more stimulated because there are more games. This was an important year for me, not to pass my exams, but because it was a big challenge. I don't only know more about the American life, but also a bit more about myself. I hope that more exchange students will come to your school. I want to thank everybody for the hospitality and the chance they gave us lHartmut and mel to know more about this countryg and, also to tell about our home countries. Thanks a lot, and I hope I will meet you again! Every airplane must return! Love, Yvette HAKCMZIC KJ-KXZXV GKIQMV4 ll I have had a super time here in Greenwich, and I am very optimistic that it will continue. Not only my host family here, the Briglins, but also your teachers and students have made my AFS year so positive. I think that I have been lucky to have been placed in Greenwich Central School. It is in fact a very good school. The school's personal- ity gives it a pleasant character. High academic standards are required from the students here. It was easy to get to know many students, and become involved in school. Here in Greenwich, students and teachers know each other, and as a result they are friendly and care about each other. This is something missing in my German school since it is bigger. In Germany, I only know some of the boys and girls in my class and am a member of only a few clubs. Students and teachers are much more impersonal. The courses I took here always kept me busy and sometimes I just hated the work, especially when there was too much of it. On the other hand, the courses were important to me. English helped me to pick up the American language and improve my expression. American studies and American government were the most interesting courses for me because I can't take them in Germany. Advanced biology grabbed my interest. Mathematics has helped me to improve my math skills. But school here was not only learning, work and studying. I also had a lot of fun. Chorus, Swing Choir, AFS and of course the Cross-Country team made it easy to get involved in school and make new friends. These things made it easy for me in school. I thank the Greenwich School Community which had a lot of work and also some trouble with me. I thank the teachers and the students that I worked with. You made it easy for me to get used to another school and its different system. You showed patience with my more broken than spoken English. Furthermore, you accepted me as I am, with my mistakes. And some of you have become close friends of mine. Thank you all so much. Yours, Hartmut Q19 QIKCU LTV N W iqff J Q7 Q QQ XQS3 I 'Q ' ' A, Q' 0 X 513 T! Q gtk , 9 4-4 fp, js? George H. Palmer e ' ' 52102 1121x212 M09 ' ' ' S2102 nfzfezz M092 MAN BEHIND THE SCENES Kevin Karp has played an important, but invisi- ble, part in the staging and production of nearly all activities put on by this school in the past 5 years. Some of the activities in which he's been in- volved include doing the lights for theatrical and musical shows and acting as a general stage hand. ln addition to these roles he has also been a great assistant in the library. He has been Mrs. Boeker's reliable newspaper boy for the last 5 years. He has taken care of the AV equipment. He has seen to it that the equipment was deliv- ered to those faculty members who requested it, and, he has also seen to it that it was in good repair. During the past year Kevin has been involved in yet another major project. He has been acting as an errand boy for the yearbook. He saw to it that material was transported between the year- book staff and the photographer. He has taken many pictures for the yearbook-candids, faculty pictures, group shots, etc. Kevin is known throughout the school for his cheerful face and helping hand. He is almost unparalleled in his committment to making the school day better by paying attention to those things everyone else takes for granted. To Kevin Karp-THANK YOU from all of us at GCS. Kevin M. Karp Carol S. Davis EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Few people realize the time and hard work in- volved in being editor of the yearbook. This year's staff was lucky to have an editor who was reliable and dedicated. Although our editor is a quiet sort of person she has done a tremene dous job of performing her duties. Carol Davis applied for the position last spring. She was selected from those who applied for those qualities which are needed to get the job done - dependability, reliability, and dedication. The staff's main Row 1: Mrs. Niles, K. Mosher, C. Morrison, R.Daniello, K. Towne. Row 2: K. Karp, D. Estramonte, B. Hebert, B. Zink, M. Clifford. Row 3: K. Towne, H. Skellie, N. Nestle, K. Degner, R. VanGuilder, L. Reiszel, A. Snell. objective is to produce a yearbook which captures the names and faces of those people involved in the numerous activities here at school. m Staff members must do layouts, crop pictures and type copy. They must try to include all aspects of school life. The task is time consuming and requires a great deal of hard work and dedication. We have other duties in addition to the actual production of the pages Q in the yearbook. We must also raise the money to pay for the publication of the book. This is done through the QQ sale of the yearbooks QQ and advertising. Anyone interested in performing these functions should join next year's staff. 127 M4165 Tracy Hebert Nancy Nestle Amy Patterson Heidi Skellie L24 11011 CS Carol Davis Karen Degner Lisa Reiszel Ruth VanGuilder Becky Zink P1-10 505164 191111 Son 8L Sky Fine Fotos McMorris Photos Mrs. Degner Mrs. Dewey Dr. Fitzgerald Mr. Holmes Carol Davis Karen Degner Kevin Karp Kevin Towne CVPJNG Carol Davis Lisa Reiszel Robin Sheridan Ruth VanGuilder Z'J-181685 ,4 G165,4Z' 05,45 0? 11101616 YN 1101711827 JN 19160Z7ll6.7r7V5 V4 11624 16130016 .SL4lf6'S Cathi Barnes Colleen Cronin Carol Davis Karen Degner Sandy Hemming Tracey Jordan Heather MacNeil Paul McKernon Tina McMurray Adrienne McVicker Chad Morrison Laurie Murphy Nancy Nestle Holly Niles Lisa Reiszel Ann Snell Janet Stevens Bret Stewart Mike Traver Ruth VanGuilder Kerri Wilbur Becky Zink 827127016 6114 16 017 23.14 WS A5315 CAN ZZ 1611271 Vy4N5l1.7L'D816 AD 11.73016 M1651 511671615511 .1Vr7lf55 ,429 V516 UJSJNG Co-Chairmen: Kevin Karp Kevin Towne Tim Brophy Michelle Clifford Ralph Daniello Jennifer Donahue Ron Eastman Dean Estramonte BJ Hebert Tracey Jordan Chad Morrison Ken Mosher Kyle Towne Sue Worthington Becky Zink S6W.7016 58651007 Introduction: Robert Johnson Art: Nancy Nestle Baby Pictures: Heidi Meek Ann Snell History: Linda Dixson Prophecy: Tracy Hebert C0 ALC 511055 WJ-10 A5515 CSD, CHJNK 110111 in ,Q 1X X X-L x . , x X f' Xx . , -a X. , Xf 'x N if f f k4 YV? . - A ' Ax ., v 'A ' Nnf- gif? . - 1 i 'M'J , QNQXN f-:N . 1 ' ' 2, GX Q69 ,E f:f+fQ53L Lf ii -XX Cy! 03.
