Valencia proved to be the Utopia of all our ports. It has only been in recent years that American Men O War have been allovvfed in Spain and the good impression they have left behind was readily observed In the Spanish people ' s cordiality and hospitality toward the sailors. Valencia Is sur- prisingly modern and up to date, although gulte an old city in terms of years. Trolley cars, taxis and other modes of transportation literary choked the streets, much the same as in New York, Cleve- land and Philadelphia. Probably the finest and most beautiful thing about the city were the women. They were the most beautiful the crew had seen on the whole cr uise. The traditional black hair and brown eyes, dark complexion and modeled figures caught many a sailor ' s eye as the senoritas strolled the walks and pathways of their native city. Excellent buys were available at Valencia in cloth, Spanish lace and costume jewelry and many of the men came back to the ship with tailormade suits and jackets at exceptionally reasonable prices. There was much of scenic Interest In Valencia also. We saw the bull ring which sits directly off the main plaza of the city, a huge and impressive Jusi ' Like Times Square N i T '
