IIISLII1 Editor F HAYDEN l HELEN ANDERSON Blast Co Edntors BURTON WYSS Itascan Assxstant Edntor A ANDERSON ' I I I f ohn A Vandyke who as superintendent organized Independent School Drstrrct No 2 comprising the vrllages of Marble Calumet Taconrte Bovey and Coleraine Itasca County will go down rn state hrstory not only as an outstanding educator but also as a Chrrstran man of high rdeals who was progressrse who loved hrs profession and who held the respect of large student bodies and who was a lrfclong influence rn making them better crtrzens He served rn Drstrrct No 2 schools 52 years He was prominent for oser half a century among Minnesota educators He was a past president of the Minnesota Educational Association and headed He prepared himself early for hrs school profession and hrs interest rn hrs work never deviated If he taught a Sunday School class there was no rmprovrsrng every statement he made was verrfred by careful preparedness He carrred on hrs work wrth schools and hrs public relatronshrp wrth the same careful preparedness That was typical of hrm rn all hrs endeavors Mr Vandyke was selected and came to Bovey rn 1906 to organize the school system rn thrs then newly organized mrnrng drstrrct It was an opportunity for an educator and organrzer of Mr Vandykes abrlrty and rts problems would have been a stumbling block for one less fitted for the work Independent School Drstrrct No 2 and rts Itasca College rs a monument to hrs abrlrtres and endeavor He was born rn jasper County Iowa uly 29 1861 He died at Orlando Florida March 21 1950 J . Among these are nice qual- ity of voices and good sectional bal- ance. The accomplishments of this group are also high. They are as follows: The Christmas Pageant, broadcast program, and the Easter Program.
