ADMINISTRATION Dr Hoflman Mrs Rowe TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 1971- On behalf of the Board of Education and the many citizens of the Greenville Area School District who have made possible excellent facilities and staff for your educational growth and development. I extend congratulations and warm wishes to the Class of 1971. Several years from now when you leaf through this pictorial record, you may chuckle and wonder why education was conducted in such a manner—why you dressed as you did—and why you behaved as you did. The answer will be quite simple—it will have been the accepted practice of the time. Changes will have taken place but they will have occurred through thoughtful deliberation and in an orderly, constructive manner. May each of you respect and honor the heritage of the past and recognize that heritage as a foundation of a better life to follow. Dr. Richard B. Hoffman Superintendent Mr Bossick 19 Mrs. Ramsey CLASS OF 1971: Congratulations to you graduates of the NOW Generation as we all start the decade of the Seventies. Based on the time of one's birth, the solar horoscope is considered to be a reasonable guide to personalities. It takes into account the monthly passing of the sun through one of the twelve zodiac signs. Each person has the qualities and characteristics of the sign under which he is born. The staff of the '71 Troian has selected the zodiac theme because our class began its activities with the candy sale centering on the zodiac. DEDICATION Mrs. Royal “I am a part of all that I have met.” Alfred, Lord Tennyson No one passes through life without coming under the influence of someone or some thing. Teachers become very important influences upon their students because they impress a part of themselves on their students. Their interests, devotion, and knowledge become a part of the students' minds, personalities, and ways of thinking. In this respect, we all become a part of that which we have met. The dedication of the 1971 Troian to Mrs. Edna Royal and Mr. Ronald Roh-land reflects our feeling that these two teachers are exemplary of that giving of themselves which is so important in the students' lives. 107 Mr. Rohland MRS. ROYAI___ By dedicating the yearbook to Mrs. Royal, the class of 1971 recognizes her contributions to Greenville Senior High School both in and out of the classroom. In the classroom. Mrs. Royal strives to make the French and Latin languages come alive for her students by presenting, in a creative and original manner, the cultural as well as the grammatical aspects of these two languages. In addition to her class presentations, Mrs. Royal has always offered her assistance in all possible ways, often spending many hours of her own time to aid students with their own personal development—whether it be learning difficulties, personal problems, or pursuit of individual interests. Out of the classroom. Mrs. Royal takes a personal pride and an active interest in extracurricular activities at Greenville High School. She attends several after-school functions such as choral and band concerts, plays, and athletic events. Feeling that clubs are valuable assets to a student’s educational development. she offers her guidance and assistance to the Latin Club, French Club, and Tri-Hi-Y. Because Mrs. Royal has given much to the development of GHS and its students. the senior class acknowledges her contributions with this dedication of the 1971 Troian. 108 ... MR. ROHLAND Mr. Rohland is genuinely concerned with today's young people. Through his work with the band and other musical groups, he has helped students not only to develop their musical abilities, but also to develop other important qualities. He has encouraged self-discipline. self-confidence, development of individual skills, and group cooperation. Entrusting students with responsibility is one of Mr. Rohland's firm beliefs. As a result of his efforts, the band is now permitted to perform at away football games and to participate in band days at various colleges. Much of Mr. Rohland's free time is devoted to holding extra practices, performing at sports activities, helping with individual problems, or just talking with students. Because Mr. Rohland is an outstanding teacher and a sincere friend respected by all who know him. we. the senior class, dedicate the 1971 Troian to him. 109 CLASS OF 1971 ...
