Yesterday a happy face, today saddened, tomorrow a tearful but eager face meets the world with meek anticipations. This yearbook has attempted to portray in pictures and words your lives as you have lived them during this school year. There have been times of happiness, times of sadness, times of victory, times of defeat, but most of all - times of memories. The one and only wish of the Pirate Staff is that we have captured for each and every one of you some cherished moment or fond memory of your treasured days at GHS. Your Editor, Janet Kerr KATHY BRANNEN EDITOR-ELECT DEDICATION MR. L. C. NEWMAN Many times throughout a typical day at Greenville High School, the students are greeted in the halls by a warm and friendly smile and a cheerful Hello.” The man behind this smile is one who is appreciated and loved by everyone at G. H. S. No matter what the task, he can always be counted on to do his best to help in any way. He is a man that none of us could do with- out and so to show our true appreciation for his cheerful and faithful service, we the 1969 Annual Staff proudly dedicate this edition of The Pirate to MR. L. C. NEWMAN, Our Right- Hand Man.” 4 ADMINISTRATION PRINCIPAL - MR. WESLEY WM. ROBERTS, JR. Before the Seniors of 1969 leave, I want to wish you well in your future en- deavors and to outline five habits I hope each of you will think about and apply in your life. Here are the habits you might consider: 1. I will let religion be a part of my life. Note the words of George Washing- ton: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lend to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.” He also said, Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.” 2. I will feed my mind by reading regularly and wisely. I will select care- fully material which I will read and build into my personality. 3. I will plan the use of my time wisely. Every person has 24 hours in each day. Some people manage to get a lot done - some never have time for worth- while activities. I will “fill the unforgiving minute with 'sixty seconds’ worth of distance run.” 4. 1 will choose my friends wisely. I will judge each man by his own qualities. 5. I will not be afraid to be an individual. I will develop worthwhile interests that will absorb my time. I will believe in myself and conduct myself so that people will believe in me. 1 shall stand alone if need be and be strong for what I think is right. 1 will respect the other person’s point of view even though I may disagree with him. Remember, life is change and growth. Plan your change and growth with habits of value. Very truly yours, Wesley Supervising Principal SCHOOL SECRETARY MRS.
