Dite Staff d oreivor Perhaps in the future you will rejoice to call to mind mem- ories of Greenville High School. We, in this, the second volume of “The Pirate have sought to store the pleasant memories of our school. We have attempted to make it a simple record and we have no apologies to offer because we have done our best. Therefore, cast not a critical eye upon this, our best efforts, but think of the part you have played in making this record, that the contents may be more appreciated by you. - The Staff - 2 t)edicu tion No one appreciates Mrs. Earp more than the present Senior Class of Greenville High School. For the past four years she has been our homeroom teacher and English Teacher. She also taught us biology in our sophomore year. During these years she has put forth untiring efforts to guide and direct us in our school activities and to prepare us for our future life. As proof of our thanks and ap- preciation we dedicate this ed- ition of THE PIRATE to you, Mrs. Earp. 3 Jliyh .School acuity C. C. COMBS PR INCI PAL MRS. C. H. Oft • A: ; V' As the power has been given to me to look into the future and prophesy what will happen to each of the studious Seniors of the Class of 1950, I do hereby spill my wisdom. I see Arie Bell Bailey as head of the White House in I960. Watch out for a clean tidy country now! R. W. Brownis destined to become co-pilot on a rocket ship belonging to the fa- mous scientist, Mr. J. C. Cartmill. These two expect to fly to the moon in a few months. Catherine Houck will be “Air Hostess” on this trip. As I look further into the future I see Joyce Glennon teaching the true facts about math to a class of brilliant students. Her outstanding student is Bobby Kinsey. The Pacific Bridge, which will reach from Los Angeles to Tokyo, is to be com- pleted in a couple of years by the noted engineer, Mr. Elbert Sever. I see Phillip Johnson returning from Alaska loaded with gold in his flashy two- toned ’3 7 Ford with Jimmy Merrell as chauffeur. I see Annelle Warden as leader of the cheering squad at Notre Dame’s big game of the year against Harvard University. Hark! Mary LouCox is now in Germany teaching the little boys and girls how to spell, read, write and fuss. Right now Myrna Ann Reams has a gold crown on her head a foot high. She is re- cognized by me as the wife of the king of Spain. Her name is unknown. This finds Martha Bryan Leggett as the happy and charming wife of General Brown of the United States Air Force and mother of the “All American” football team. As for Virgil McHargue, always the most humorous and witty character in any classroom,Iforesee that in the near future we will be able to sit in our own living- rooms and watch his playful antics on television. In a few years everyone will see Edna Earl Day teaching Esther Williams ’ children to swim and dive. As for Tommy Stud still every one knows where he’ll end up. Where??? Why, he’s now the proprietor of the world’s largest amusement park. His name is now “Willie Thomas Hopp . He also has a daily exhibition between R. W. Brown and Jimmy Mer- rell, billard champions of the world. Marjorie Kinsey will be chosen as “Miss America” in I960 because of her shap- ely torso and will be sent to New York to become an exclusive model in J. C. Pen- ny’s department store. As I look deeper into the future I can see Beatrice Capayne and her husband Charles as proprietors of Cook’s Mill, which is now the greatest pulpwood industry in the South. 10 LEO LA MAE CONE jLt Wife and Jestament PREAMBLE We, The Senior Class of 1950, being of sound (asleep) mind and tired body, knowing our twelve years of hard labor (laboring at doing as lit- tle as possible), are drawing to a close, hereby do declare the follow- ing statement our last will and testament. To Mrs. Combs we will the seniors of 1951, hoping that they may be able to graduate in two more years. To Mr. Combs we leave our promise that we didn’t nut all of those gray hairs in his head. ToMr. Pate we leave our Senior Ag. boys’ ability to read the titles to the filmstrips. To Miss Cone we will the satisfaction that she has made good future housekeepers out of all the senior girls. I, Martha Bryan Leggett, being of sound and unselfish mind, do hereby bequeath my athletic ability to Sarah Hudson. I, Mary Lou Cox, do hereby will my red curly hair to Peggy Stud- still.
